Hi everyone,
The last you may have heard from me was that he had just finished with his radiation treatments for his recurrent lung lesion. He has since recovered from the radiation treatments and had been regaining strength. However, there is some news that I would like for each one of you to pray about.
A few days or so ago, he underwent an MRI of his brain. If some of you may recall, my Dad had brain surgery done around 2005 to take out a benign tumor they found during a CT scan. You may also remember that he was taken off his Tarceva (oral chemo) months ago and it was part of the reason why the lung lesion recurred.
Today, he got the results of the MRI. The news? They found a growth, a tumor, in his brain... once again.
I don't know what else to say, and it's not because I don't think this is big news. I am absolutely baffled, frustrated, and incredibly sad. I just feel that Dad has been through so much over the last couple years, and to think that something you thought you'd already overcome, for it to come back, is just not something you--or anyone for that matter--would like to hear.
As far as our family is concerned, the tumor is benign, not spreading. I wish I was there when results were discussed so I could've found out a little bit more, about what the oncologist thinks, what the treatment plan is, and so forth. But as far as we know, it's just sort of... there. He has been put back on the Tarceva. The main concern Dad has is the side effects: the nightly leg cramps, fatigue, among others.
Though I still have my faith, I'm just admittedly bewildered because Dad had been doing quite well, so far, recovering from radiation treatments and now, this one. He is, of course, quite frustrated and also discouraged. It's the nature of cancer: you think you've gotten it beat, but sometimes, it still has some ugly surprises in store. There's not a day that goes by that I wish for a cure to be found, not just for my father, but for anyone who is going through any kind of cancer there is, whether benign or malignant.
I will keep this short for now and will update everyone as I find out more, but please... please pray for my Dad and for our family at this time. Pray for faith, strength, encouragement. Feel free to email back as well.
Thanks and God Bless,
Jean
