All-

We will not be meeting at our house Thursday night (Thurs
12/20)...Instead we will be meeting at Ate' Linda's house so PJ and
Helen Grace can join us....

Please try and be on time 7:30pm so we have time to fellowship
after...
Agenda -

- Praise Reports
- What did you learn on Sunday?
- Discussion (Chapter 7 "Money") from Desiring God by John Piper
- Prayer Requests
- New Year Plans for the Group
- Christmas Fellowship

Below are a few questions from the Studay Guide to aide our discussion
tomorrow night...

People often stumble over the statement in 1 Timothy 6:10, "The love
of money is the root of all
evils." The NIV even paraphrases it very loosely to try to avoid the
problem, "The love of money
is the root of all kinds of evil." There is another way of
understanding this sentence that really
does take the phrase "all evil" more literally. How does the author
state this understanding? How
does the love of money relate to "all evil"?

Paul deplores the "depraved mind" that treats godliness as a means of
gain" (1 Timothy 6:5). In
opposing this depravity does he attack the motive of gain? What does
he do?

What Biblical sentence proves that it is "very profitable not to
pursue riches"?

The first argument (from 1 Timothy 6:7) given on page 188 (to support
the claim that there is
great gain in godliness with contentment) is that "we brought nothing
into the world and we
cannot take anything out of the world." But there is an assumption
behind this argument without
which it would not be compelling. What is the assumption? (Hint: why
couldn't someone argue
just the opposite: "since 'you can't take it with you,' get as much as
you can now and live it up"?)

A second argument (from 1 Timothy 6:8) to support the claim that there
is great gain in godliness
with contentment is that we can and ought to be happy with the simple
necessity of life. In a
sentence for each, state the three reasons why it is possible and good
for a Christian to be content
with the simple necessities of life without needing luxuries?

Explain from 1 Timothy 6:9-10 why no Christian Hedonist wants to be
rich.

From Matthew 6 and Luke 12 explain what Jesus' investment strategy is.

How practically and specifically do you lay up treasures in heaven by
using your money on earth?
Give at least two specific Biblical supports.

Why is almsgiving or an act of mercy which is motivated by a desire
for the promised reward not
unloving or uncaring?

Why has God given his people in America so much? (Use Ephesians 4:28
and 2 Corinthians 9:8)

See you Thursday Night.

Later,
CBol

Jean,
That's good, we'll be praying for your pop's.  By the way tell Alla I said "HI SLACKER!", also Jean let me know if you hear about any evening part time okay?  Like 24 hours a week or less, thanks.

God Bless,

Hello all----------

I had every intention of going to Bible study this week when I remembered I switched shifts with someone from evening shift. (Kuya PJ, I dunno if you remember Alla from our unit; she's the one I switched shifts with.) She's taking my day shift tomorrow and I'm taking her Thursday evening shift for her since she needed Thursday off. So I'll be working from 3pm-11pm on Thursday night. Hope you guys have a good time though; I'll keep my eye out for updates. Ate Len and Kuya PJ - hope Tita Linda's doing better. She seems to be recovering and literally, making strides in her healing process :) Kudos and praise to God.

Jean

PS - My dad had a colonoscopy/upper endoscopy today at Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro and they pretty much sedated him so I'm up watching him and making sure I'm available if he needs it cuz he's still a little wobbly when he's up and out of bed... pray that results from the procedure won't be negative and that he'll bounce back by tomorrow and be more alert and steady when walking around. It's a good thing I'm actually off tomorrow so I could stay home and make sure he's gonna be fine going around the house. My CNA training comes in handy at home every now and then... *light laughter*
