I promised you a midweek treat and I'm not about to disappoint. I have an absolute gem for you today.

Polyvore. What the heck is that? It's a social networking site with fashion at its core. It's an Internet styling device which lets you drag and drop wearables and create looks or "sets" and then share them with your friends. It's a user generated fashion periodical in which you essentially are creating ads and editorial spreads, without really thinking too much about it.

It's a delightfully addictive creative outlet sort of like paper dolls...and it's like crack.  The first site I signed onto this morning was not Gmail, not Facebook, but Polyvore. It's mad cool. It's genius.

Polyvore is the brainchild of a silicon valley trio of...dudes? Yes, three guys who worked at Yahoo must have felt the same "energy" which inspired Mark Zuckerberg and Sean Parker and lo and behold, Guangwei Yuan, Pasha Sadri, and Jianing Hu secured almost $8million in start up capital and voila! They have been off and running since 2007.

I've just dipped a toe in the world of Polyvore and so far the water's fine. I plan to use it as a creative outlet, a virtual shopping experience (did I forget to mention that you can buy the items in your set? Yes--the stores' sites link directly to your sets and email) and I am definitely going to follow the company's  growth with interest.

I hope that the "Fashion Network" story of Polyvore unfolds  with fewer unpleasantries than that of The Social Network...have you seen that movie yet? Do. Even if you don't give a hoot about Mr. Zuckerberg and the Winkelvii, the cinematography and script is awesome. Not a shot nor a line is wasted. It's an energizing tale of wits vs. entitlement, getting to the finish line first, and not even knowing if there is a finish line in the virtual world of social networking. Oh, and it's about the creation of Facebook.

Armie Hammer is the grandson of Armand Hammer.
Young man doesn't have to work if he don't care to.
And the Henley Royal Regatta scene, with the high-speed film technique putting you right in the boat...and the defeat of the Winkelvoss twins set against the leaden-grey English sky accompanied by The Hall of the Mountain King (Peer Gynt)...that scene could be an award-winning short in and of itself. The movie made me giddy with excitement about the creation of something new, but that particular scene made the blood course through my veins like the waters of Niagara.

My apologies for the verbosity today, but do you get as excited as I do when you see new and big ideas unfold? This Polyvore thing could be big. Really big...Anyway, check it out, share it with your friends and tell them that you heard about it from The Devoted Dabbler.

If you like it, please share it via email or Facebook.

See you soon.
