Greetings Davis cousins!

Have any of you done AncestryDNA?

First some quick background:

In addition to my Davis family, I  have also done research to try to figure out who my Dad’s biological parents were, as he was adopted. I believe my Dad’s biological father was a man named Charles Laughlin. I have an entire tree with detail of what I believe to be true.

Several months ago, a Robbie Parker contacted me through Ancestry.  Robbie is the great grandson of Charles.  He is about 29 years old and lives in Utah with his wife, and is fascinated by my story. We traded a few emails.

About a month ago, Robbie contacted me again, and said he had done AncestryDNA and wondered if I had.

I had not, as I was not sure if AncestryDNA was junk science, and it is a little bit expensive.  It is normally $99.00.

I know they run special prices at different times.  I waited for the price to come down. They had an offer for $79.00, I found a coupon for free shipping, and ordered the package.  I did not know how this was all going to turn out. I figured if I was a match to Robbie,  it would finally prove my years of genealogy research were actually correct.  It nothing turned up, it would not disprove my research, but would still leave questions.

Now for the results of the cousin matches.

The top person in my list is a person I know for sure to be my second cousin, a William Lamphere.  And the third person on my list is another person who I know to be my second cousin.

But the second person in my list is Robbie!  I could not believe it!

I was amazed!

Now for some interesting Davis/Walters connections.

I have a match for my Walters side of the family.  Someone who is 4 generations removed from Nathaniel Walters.  I am 5 generations removed from Nathaniel.

And I have a match for Connie!

She is not a close cousin but is listed on the second of my matches as a distant cousin

Remember I told you in my email above that our second cousin, William Lamphere, was at the top of my list of cousin matches?

Well Bill had contacted me through Ancestry several months ago to say hello, and I replied back to him again to let him know that he was at the top of my list of cousin matches.

He emailed me a whole bunch of pictures, including one for Mary Ann Walters.  I have posted it to my tree, and attached it in this email.

All very interesting!

Yes, in addition to Ancestry giving you an Ethnicity estimate, which mine is below, they also match you with others that have taken the test.

I know I am both Irish and English, so the above Ethnicity results for me would most likely be correct.

One interesting for all of you looking for the “Indian” connection, there were no Indian results!

23andme gives a speculative origin, standard and conservative. My
speculative is 99% European, 30% British and Irish, 18% German and French,
8% Scandanavian, 1.4% Iberian, .5% Balkan, .1% Asaian/Native American and
.1% Yakut. Kit is $99 and 10 bucks less per kit. They also compare your
DNA with others who report their families countries origins. Mine is
United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Denmark and Netherlands. David Dankert
