Interesting cousin result on Ancestry DNA

I wanted to share this:

 

As I understand how this AncestryDNA works, the results are only going to find cousins if you share direct line ancestors.

 

One of my cousin results was for a:

 

 

In looking at her tree, there is one common ancestor

 

Irene May Drew, who was the daughter of Joseph Obediah Drew and Mary Etta Davis.  (Mary Etta was the daughter of John Davis and Mary Ann Walters).

 

Irene would not be a direct line ancestor for me, but John and Mary Ann would be.

 

Pursuing this further, I noticed that Tammy entered the incorrect parents for Irene.  She entered Irene’s husband’s parents rather than Joseph and Mary Etta.  There are not even any Davises or Drews in her tree!

 

Which means that this AncestryDNA must truly be using DNA to find these matches!

Definitely sounds like a way to clear up some incorrect data in some of the trees on Ancestry.

Will it give you periodic updates if new cousins are found?

Did you finally decide to take the AncestryDNA test?

 

I took advantage of the sale price, and had my husband take the test, and am waiting to hear back the results for him.

I did the 23andme and submitted my moms dna. We have over 1000 matches.
Been in contact with distant family. What surprises me is that some
females with only maternal matches opt out of accepting contact. Males
generally have both maternal and paternal matches. After looking at the
Davis family tree I see Spencers on the tree and on paternal Spencer tree
see Davis. We are from the Ishmael Davis line whos father was Mirandi
Davis whos father was Jeremiah Davis. Our closest match is Fred Krause
whos gg grandfather was Ebenezor Davis Mirandis brother. I spoke with Jane
Devota who is from New Lothrup a few miles from my home town Chesaning is
related through her mothers Dupraw line who is decended from Ebenezor.
