Interesting finds on Smith/Drew/Davis family connections …  and other things

First, read the email below this one that I sent to Rich earlier this week.

If you look at the link for Mary Etta Davis Drew, you will see that Joseph Drew’s parents, Lewis and Mary F. are also buried at Riverside Cemetery.

Note that the owner of their plot  is “Thomas J Smith”, which got me thinking, who is “Thomas J Smith”?   Then, I surmised that Thomas must be a son-in-law.

This is what I have put together since then.

So many interesting connections:

In the 1880 and 1900 censuses, Thomas and Sally Smith are living next door to Lewis and Mary Drew.

Now, if you go back the 1870 census, the Drew and Smith families are listed on the same page, and William and Sally are listed in their respective families and the ages match up.

I am thinking that Sally Smith must be the former Sally Drew, and I am going one step further, and I believe Thomas must be the son of Calvin and Sarah Smith.  (Sarah is the one we believe to be a Davis sibling.)

I also found census records for Thomas and Sally for 1910, 1920 and 1930.  It looks like they never had kids, and they were married 60 years!

Through the Find a Grave website I was able to figure out they were both buried in Pritchard cemetery and then I was able to find a cemetery listing for Pritchard cemetery which includes actual dates of birth and death for each one of them.

What I am having a hard time finding is any marriage or death records through the www.familysearch.org website or through Ancestry.com.  Maybe one of you might be able to find these records in a different manner?  I would love to confirm the above information with definitive vital records.

Other Notes:

On the same page of 1870 Census is the John A Whitman family, and Edwin Davis (son of William Davis and Mary Whitman) is living with them. (Going back to an earlier email, Mary Whitman must be part of this Whitman family that we keep bumping into with her!)

On the same page of the 1880 census, are the following Davis families, Levi Sr & Fanny, Levi Jr & Josephine and Fred & Emma. James Davis is living with Lewis and Mary Drew.

These families are all interconnected!

Lots of Davis sisters are buried in Riverside Cemetery!

Rich,

Lots of Davis sisters are buried in Riverside Cemetery, Alma, Gratiot, Michigan

Main Search Page:

First I found Lovina there, she is buried with one of her six husbands, George W. White.
Search for "Lovina White Leopard"

Then I found Almeda Davis Button and her family
Search for "Button".
Laura Dobie is the owner (and I believe Laura is Almeda's daughter.)

Next was Mary Etta Davis Drew and family
Search for "Drew".
What is interesting about Mary Etta, is that "William W Davis" is the owner of the plot.

And if you go to the Find A Grave, they are all there.
