I found out what happened to Susanna Walters Davis after 1880. Many Ancestry trees assumed she died in 1880 or soon after, but apparently, she did not.
Here is my updated tree for Susanna.

Ebenezer Davis died in June 1892. At the time of his death, he was listed as married. Which lead me to be believe Susanna was still alive. (Although it was possible Susannah had died and Ebenezer had remarried. )
As it turns out, I believe Susan remarried Abraham Smith in September 1892 in Garfield, Bay, Michigan.

When I first saw this record, I was confused by the inclusion of the name “Fales” in her name, and that it listed her father’s name as “Fales”. After all the research I have done recently on the Fales family, I was pretty sure that Susan was not a “Fales” by birth. I posted it to my tree, with the note, “I wasn’t sure about this”, but I wanted to see what else I could find.
I then found a 1900 census record for Abraham and Susan living in Garfield. It shows that Susan’s father was born in Ohio and her mother was born in Pennsylvania. It was looking more like Susanna Walters.
Then I found an 1894 Michigan census, in which Abraham, Susan, and daughter Rebecca are living in Bay County, Michigan. Rebecca is age 14, the same age as Susan’s daughter Rebecca with Ebenezer.
Finally, I found a death certificate for Susan from “Seeking Michigan”. (See attached file)
http://seekingmichigan.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/p129401coll7/id/805772/rec/1
It shows that Susan’s father’s name was Jacob Walters. (Now Susan’s father’s name was actually Nathaniel, but I think middle names crop up in various records)
And, if you look closely at the 1900 census for Garfield (which is only 13 pages long) , Susan is on in page 2, her son Nathaniel is on page 1, and her son Alonzo is on page 4. Augustine Fales, her nephew, is living next door to Alonzo.
Which raises the question, was Susanna married to a “Fales” before she married Ebenezer? And which Fales could that be?

Kathy,
I do know about Edward Fales and Margaret Walters as I have researched that family quite a bit in the past several weeks.
I truly believe that Susan was only married twice, first to Ebenezer Davis and then to Abraham Smith, but it was odd that “Fales” appeared in the entry for her marriage record.
Marriage records are usually accurate, as it is the principals themselves giving the information and not some other family member.

What I would really like to find out is where was my great grandmother Martha Davis on the 1870 census! And is there any way to get birth records prior to 1867?
I have been told by my second cousin (John) that he “knows for sure”, it is just common family knowledge that Martha’s parents were John Davis and Mary Ann Walters. I would just like a little corroboration! I cannot find anything to confirm that.
From what John has told me, Martha was born in Zilwaukee, Michigan in January 1864. From what I have been able to figure out, is that Martha married Rollson Warner in 1880 in Spaulding. They had 3 children in Michigan and then moved to Binghamton, New York where Rollson was from.
I obtained Martha’s death certificate from New York, and her parents are listed as unknown. I have an on-line marriage record from Michigan, but no parents are listed.
Susan Davis, Martha’s sister, is also missing on the 1870 census, but she reappears on the 1880 census with Mary Ann and Henry. (Martha is on the 1880 census with Rollson).
What is puzzling is that there is a Clara and a Mathilda , similar in age to Nancy and Martha, who are living with Ebenezer and Susanna in 1870. I have not been able to find any records for Clara or Mathilda after 1870.
Are Clara and Mathilda, Susan and Martha? If not, what happened to Clara and Mathilda?
Is it possible that Martha is the daughter of Ebenezer and Susanna?
I cannot find any records for Mary Ann after 1880. I would like to find a death record for her. John tells me the last he knows, Mary Ann was living in Clare County in 1890, divorced, and Henry had stolen her cows. (John also tried to convince me that John Davis and Henry Davis were brothers, but as I explained to him they are at least 48 years apart in age. I am a little skeptical of what John tells me!
I keep looking, but I may never find the answers!
