Hello My Fellow Lions,

At today's meeting we discussed numerous topics related to club business. To catch up all the Lions that were unable to make today's meetings here are the main topics:

  • Induction of new members
    • We will try to induct new members as soon as possible, and will do so at the first business meeting  (typically scheduled once a month, ideally following the monthly board meeting).
    • We will create a printed copy of the script so that different Lions can participate leading the induction.
  • Christmas Tree Pick-up
    • Lion Bill Hamilton has made the arrangements for this year's tree pick-up, and it will be on January 10th. So pencil in that day! I missed the time and location, so if someone in the know could respond to this email with those details that would be great!
  • Flags for First Graders
    • Lion Tim is hard at work making this event happen again this year. Lions helping to organize this project are going to take stock (literally) of our supplies and then determine if we will need a small working party to assemble the materials. More info to come after we have that squared.
  • Lion John Byers
    • Lion Jim Wilcox updated the club with sad news that Lion John Byers has passed away. The obituary is here. Lion John Byers was a very active member of the club for numerous years, and maintained his membership even when other obligations needed his attention and time. Lion John was instrumental in the creation of the Lions Charitable Trust, and an example of  how what we start and build can continue on. Lion Jim Wilcox has more information about Lion John, and if you are interested in learning the legacy, Lion Jim can fill you in.
  • District 36-G news:
    • Did you know that District 36-G has a website? Now you do! If you have missed the last few months of meetings you may not know that our very own Lion Tim is the District Governor for D36-G. We will be having the D-36 conference right here in The Dalles on April 10th and 11th. The focus will be on how to make club meetings fun and entertaining.
  • There was discussion about replacing the large green "cabinet" that holds our badges.
    • The large cabinet has proved to be a little heavy and unwieldy for some folks, so there is thought to replace it with a more lightweight option, something similar to a briefcase. We will bring this option to one of the next meetings to have the membership be able to take a look at it.
    • We will conduct a vote at the next business meeting on January 20th if we would like to maintain the current cabinet or switch to a new one.
    • If we do replace the green cabinet we will entertain options in regards to what to do with the green cabinet.
      • Utilize the cabinet for some other club function or task.
      • Respectfully retire the cabinet.
      • Refurbish the cabinet and have memorial badges, buttons, and pins to celebrate members who have passed.
      • Other options yet to be brought.
  • Upcoming Speakers
    • Here is the list of speakers we have for January:
      • Jan 6th  Rod Runyon
      • Jan 13th  Brian Morrissey (boy scouts)
      • Jan 20th  Lions business
      • Jan 27th  Mary Hanlon
As we close out this year I reflect upon our club and the service that we perform and feel proud to see so many people giving to our community. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish next year.

Yours in Service,
Lion Brad
