 National Carrot Cake Day

**Thought of the day.

Thanks Sharon for the thought of the day.

Life doesn’t get better by waiting for it to happen. You need to make it happen!

****Today’s Joke of the day:

Part 1

What follows are Old Testament bloopers from Sunday school students:

~ In the first book of the Bible, Guinessis, the Lord got tired of creating the world, so he took the Sabbath off.

~ Adam & Eve were created from an apple tree.

~ Noah's wife was called Joan of Ark.

~ Noah built the ark and the animals came on in pears.

~ Lot's wife was a pillar of salt by day, but a ball of fire by night.

~ The Jews were a proud people and throughout history they had trouble with unsympathetic Genitals.

~ Sampson was a strongman who let himself be led astray by a jezebel like Delilah.

~ Sampson slated the Philistines with the axe of apostles.

~ Moses led the Hebrews to the Red Sea, where they made unleavened bread, which is bread made without any ingredients.

~ Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the Ten Amendments.

~ The first commandment was when Eve told Adam to eat the apple.

~ The Fifth Commandment is humor thy mother and father.

~ The Seventh Commandment is thou shalt not admit adultery.

~ Moses died before he ever reached the UK. Then Joshua led the Hebrews in the Battle of Geritol.

~ The greatest miracle in the Bible is when Joshua told his son to stand still and he obeyed him

~ David was a Hebrew king skilled at playing the liar. He fought with the Finkelsteins, a race of people who lived in the biblical times.

~ Solomon, one of David's sons, has 300 wives and 700 porcupines.

Of course! Boom Boom! Hahahahahahahahaha

*****About Pete Seger by Alan Dicey:

About Pete Seeger
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Buoyed by his characteristically soaring spirit, the
surging crowd around him and a pair of canes, Pete Seeger walked through the
streets of Manhattan leading an Occupy Wall Street protest in 2011.

Though he would later admit the attention embarrassed him, the moment
brought back many feelings and memories as he instructed yet another
generation of young people how to effect change through song and
determination - as he had done over the last seven decades as a
history-sifting singer and ever-so-gentle rabble-rouser.

"Be wary of great leaders," he told The Associated Press two days after the
march. "Hope that there are many, many small leaders."

The banjo-picking troubadour who sang for migrant workers, college students
and star-struck presidents in a career that introduced generations of
Americans to their folk music heritage died Monday at the age of 94.
Seeger's grandson, Kitama Cahill-Jackson, said his grandfather died
peacefully in his sleep around 9:30 p.m. at New York-Presbyterian Hospital,
where he had been for six days. Family members were with him.

"He was chopping wood 10 days ago," Cahill-Jackson recalled.

With his lanky frame, use-worn banjo and full white beard, Seeger was an
iconic figure in folk music who outlived his peers. He performed with the
great minstrel Woody Guthrie in his younger days and wrote or co-wrote "If I
Had a Hammer," ''Turn, Turn, Turn," ''Where Have All the Flowers Gone" and
"Kisses Sweeter Than Wine." He lent his voice against Hitler and nuclear
power. A cheerful warrior, he typically delivered his broadsides with an
affable air and his fingers poised over the strings of his banjo. View

In 2011, the canes kept Seeger from carrying his beloved instrument while he
walked nearly 2 miles with hundreds of protesters swirling around him
holding signs and guitars. With a simple gesture - extending his
friendship - Seeger gave the protesters and even their opponents a moment of
brotherhood the short-lived Occupy movement sorely needed.

When a policeman approached, Tao Rodriguez-Seeger said at the time he feared
his grandfather would be hassled.

"He reached out and shook my hand and said, 'Thank you, thank you, this is
beautiful,'" Rodriguez-Seeger said. "That really did it for me. The cops
recognized what we were about. They wanted to help our march. They actually
wanted to protect our march because they saw something beautiful. It's very
hard to be anti-something beautiful."

That was a message Seeger spread his entire life.

With The Weavers, a quartet organized in 1948, Seeger helped set the stage
for a national folk revival. The group - Seeger, Lee Hays, Ronnie Gilbert
and Fred Hellerman - churned out hit recordings of "Goodnight Irene,"
''Tzena, Tzena" and "On Top of Old Smokey." View gallery File-This Oct. 14,

Seeger also was credited with popularizing "We Shall Overcome," which he
printed in his publication "People's Song" in 1948. He later said his only
contribution to the anthem of the civil rights movement was changing the
second word from "will" to "shall," which he said "opens up the mouth
better."

"Every kid who ever sat around a campfire singing an old song is indebted in
some way to Pete Seeger," Arlo Guthrie once said.

His musical career was always braided tightly with his political activism,
in which he advocated for causes ranging from civil rights to the cleanup of
his beloved Hudson River. Seeger said he left the Communist Party around
1950 and later renounced it. But the association dogged him for years.

He was kept off commercial television for more than a decade after tangling
with the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1955. Repeatedly pressed
by the committee to reveal whether he had sung for Communists, Seeger
responded sharply: "I love my country very dearly, and I greatly resent this
implication that some of the places that I have sung and some of the people
that I have known, and some of my opinions, whether they are religious or
philosophical, or I might be a vegetarian, make me any less of an American."

He was charged with contempt of Congress, but the sentence was overturned on
appeal. View gallery File- This Feb. 25, 1984, file photo shows folk singer

Seeger called the 1950s, years when he was denied broadcast exposure, the
high point of his career. He was on the road touring college campuses,
spreading the music he, Guthrie, Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter and others
had created or preserved.

"The most important job I did was go from college to college to college to
college, one after the other, usually small ones," he told The Associated
Press in 2006. " ... And I showed the kids there's a lot of great music in
this country they never played on the radio."

His scheduled return to commercial network television on the highly rated
Smothers Brothers variety show in 1967 was hailed as a nail in the coffin of
the blacklist. But CBS cut out his Vietnam protest song, "Waist Deep in the
Big Muddy," and Seeger accused the network of censorship.

He finally got to sing it five months later in a stirring return appearance,
although one station, in Detroit, cut the song's last stanza: "Now every
time I read the papers/That old feelin' comes on/We're waist deep in the Big
Muddy/And the big fool says to push on."

Seeger's output included dozens of albums and single records for adults and
children. View gallery File-This May 1993 file photo shows Pete Seeger,

He appeared in the movies "To Hear My Banjo Play" in 1946 and "Tell Me That
You Love Me, Junie Moon" in 1970. A reunion concert of the original Weavers
in 1980 was filmed as a documentary titled "Wasn't That a Time."

By the 1990s, no longer a party member but still styling himself a communist
with a small C, Seeger was heaped with national honors.

Official Washington sang along - the audience must sing was the rule at a
Seeger concert - when it lionized him at the Kennedy Center in 1994.
President Bill Clinton hailed him as "an inconvenient artist who dared to
sing things as he saw them."

Seeger was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 as an early
influence. Ten years later, Bruce Springsteen honored him with "We Shall
Overcome: The Seeger Sessions," a rollicking reinterpretation of songs sung
by Seeger. While pleased with the album, Seeger said he wished it was "more
serious." A 2009 concert at Madison Square Garden to mark Seeger's 90th
birthday featured Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder and Emmylou
Harris among the performers.

Seeger was a 2014 Grammy Awards nominee in the Best Spoken Word category,
which Stephen Colbert won. View gallery File-This May 13, 1975, file photo

Seeger's sometimes ambivalent relationship with rock was most famously on
display when Dylan "went electric" at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

Witnesses say Seeger became furious backstage as the amped-up band played,
though just how furious is debated. Seeger dismissed the legendary tale that
he looked for an ax to cut Dylan's sound cable, and said his objection was
not to the type of music but only that the guitar mix was so loud you
couldn't hear Dylan's words.

Seeger maintained his reedy 6-foot-2 frame into old age, though he wore a
hearing aid and conceded that his voice was pretty much shot. He relied on
his audiences to make up for his diminished voice, feeding his listeners the
lines and letting them sing out.

"I can't sing much," he said. "I used to sing high and low. Now I have a
growl somewhere in between."

Nonetheless, in 1997 he won a Grammy for best traditional folk album,
"Pete." View gallery File-This Aug. 28, 1948, file photo shows Henry A.
Wallace, listening to Pete Seeger, his banjo-play .

Seeger was born in New York City on May 3, 1919, into an artistic family
whose roots traced to religious dissenters of colonial America. His mother,
Constance, played violin and taught; his father, Charles, a musicologist,
was a consultant to the Resettlement Administration, which gave artists work
during the Depression. His uncle Alan Seeger, the poet, wrote "I Have a
Rendezvous With Death."

Pete Seeger said he fell in love with folk music when he was 16, at a music
festival in North Carolina in 1935. His half brother, Mike Seeger, and half
sister, Peggy Seeger, also became noted performers.

He learned the five-string banjo, an instrument he rescued from obscurity
and played the rest of his life in a long-necked version of his own design.
On the skin of Seeger's banjo was the phrase, "This machine surrounds hate
and forces it to surrender" - a nod to his old pal Guthrie, who emblazoned
his guitar with "This machine kills fascists."

Dropping out of Harvard in 1938 after two years as a disillusioned sociology
major, he hit the road, picking up folk tunes as he hitchhiked or hopped
freights.

"The sociology professor said, 'Don't think that you can change the world.
The only thing you can do is study it,'" Seeger said in October 2011. View
gallery File- This 1994 file photo shows actor Kirk Douglas, standing from

In 1940, with Guthrie and others, he was part of the Almanac Singers and
performed benefits for disaster relief and other causes.

He and Guthrie also toured migrant camps and union halls. He sang on
overseas radio broadcasts for the Office of War Information early in World
War II. In the Army, he spent 3½ years in Special Services, entertaining
soldiers in the South Pacific, and made corporal.

He married Toshi Seeger on July 20, 1943. The couple built their cabin in
Beacon after World War II and stayed on the high spot of land by the Hudson
River for the rest of their lives together. The couple raised three
children. Toshi Seeger died in July at age 91.

The Hudson River was a particular concern of Seeger's. He took the sloop
Clearwater, built by volunteers in 1969, up and down the Hudson, singing to
raise money to clean the water and fight polluters.

He also offered his voice in opposition to racism and the death penalty. He
got himself jailed for five days for blocking traffic in Albany in 1988 in
support of Tawana Brawley, a black teenager whose claim of having been raped
by white men was later discredited. He continued to take part in peace
protests during the war in Iraq, and he continued to lend his name to
causes.

"Can't prove a damn thing, but I look upon myself as old grandpa," Seeger
told the AP in 2008 when asked to reflect on his legacy. "There's not dozens
of people now doing what I try to do, not hundreds, but literally thousands.
... The idea of using music to try to get the world together is now all over
the place

cruelty, immaturity, greed and sinful pride."

I have submitted this recipe before but was asked to resubmit for someone as they said it sounded so easy but delicious! All you do is take Chicken Tenders as many as you want. Cut them in a length just longer than your thumb about 2 inches, just in case you have little thumbs lol! Take a slice of bacon and wrap it around the Chicken tender, over lapping just enough to stick in a toothpick. Then cut the rest of the bacon off as you can use that piece for the next piece of Chicken. Don’t forget to wet the tooth picks as they are going in the over with the bacon wrapped Chicken on a cookie sheet, in the oven pre heated to 350 for 35 to 4 minutes. Try not to over cook as you don’t want the Chicken drying up. Once cooked place on serving tray with Honey Mustard Sauce and dip! De-licious!

Your money insights sent in by Rick Rock:

·                               On February 8, the previously suspended U.S. debt ceiling returns at a level likely to be around $17 trillion.

·                               The Treasury Department is expected to take "extraordinary measures" that will likely extend the deadline for a U.S. default until around mid-March, according to one think tank.

·                               While some Republicans insist any debt ceiling increase should include spending cuts, party leaders have signaled they may not push the point.

It's time, once again, for what has become one of the most bitter fights in Washington. It's time to raise the debt ceiling.

The debt limit was suspended as part of the October agreement in Congress to end the federal government shutdown. Under that deal, the debt ceiling was suspended through February 7, 2014.

On February 8, the debt ceiling returns at the level it was back in October—approximately $16.7 trillion—plus whatever additional debt has accumulated since then. The new total is expected to be more than $17 trillion.

At that point, the Treasury Department will begin employing its so-called "extraordinary measures" to ensure the United States does not default on its debts. And the clock will start ticking for Congress to increase the limit.

Short timeframe for extraordinary measures

The extraordinary measures, which are really just a set of accounting maneuvers, typically allow Treasury to stave off default for several weeks and even months. Last year, the measures were used to avert default from mid-May until the Congressional agreement in October.

But the extraordinary measures are not expected to last nearly as long this time. Historically, February is a month when the Treasury sends out a large volume of tax refunds. In a January letter to Congress, Treasury Secretary Lew pointed out that "in 2013, the government experienced net cash outflows of approximately $230 billion in the month of February, as compared to average net outflows of $45 billion in the other months of the year."1

As a result, Lew is saying that the Treasury expects to exhaust its extraordinary measures by the end of February. In a February 3 speech in Washington, Lew implored Congress to increase the limit before February 28.

The Bipartisan Policy Center, a think tank in Washington, has calculated that the deadline is likely to fall somewhere between February 28 and March 25, with a high probability that the deadline will occur on or around March 14.2

*****Great thoughts sent in by Mike Tate:

Don't squat with your spurs on.

Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash, was one of the greatest
political sages this country has ever known.

Some of his sayings:
1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.

2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.

3. There are two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither works.

4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.

5. Always drink upstream from the herd.

6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back into
your pocket.

8. There are three kinds of men:

The ones that learn by reading.
The few who learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for
themselves.

9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad
judgment.

10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then
to make sure it's still there.

11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back.

12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started
roaring.
He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.
The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

ABOUT GROWING OLDER...

First ~Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age
and start bragging about it.

Second ~ The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Third ~ Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people
to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the
roads weren't paved.

Fourth ~ When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think
of Algebra.

Fifth ~ You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or
leaks.

Sixth ~ I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

Seventh ~ One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it's
such a nice change from being young.

Eighth ~ One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.

Ninth ~ Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

Tenth ~ Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was
called witchcraft.
Today it's called golf.

And, finally ~ If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have
anything to laugh at when you're old.

*********Zilch Replay:

14 Zilch Warriors Attended Saturday Night Zilch with Trevor And Madam Guillotine!

Our very good friend Trevor and his not such a good friend Madam Guillotine hosted Saturday Night’s 10:30 Game!

The dedicated, fearless, determined, hopeful Blind Café Zilch Warriors present listed in alphabetical order were:

Alan, Alicia, Connie, Gerald, Kathy Rose, Le Tees, Mandy, Matt, Neva, Patti, Paul, Shammy,   TerraLee, Trevor,

Half of the Players did not even get off the bench the first round, and this was an indication to the Players who now knew Madam Guillotine was in a rotten, nasty mood, and the Warriors were in for a tough hard fight with her!

One Player, our good friend, that sweet lady Connie did get off the Zilch Bench the first round with a great score of  1700, that was in harsh  contrast to what the other players received, those who were lucky enough and did get off the Bench with mostly a little over the 500 points required to do so.

Now, let me tell you this, our good friend, Marshal Mat, AKA, Country Cowboy, Zilched Out the first round, and even the second round!

And things were looking very bleak for him till the third round!

And that is when Matt had an incredible roll of the dice and scored 3400 points in that single round!

Whoa! I told you that it was incredible, I mean 3400 points!

Then when the other Players were still fighting to get even a pittance of a few points, Matt scored another 1200 points in round 4, to reach game point of 4600!

Incredible! Round 4 and he has 4600 points!

Connie at this point had 2900 points, and had the best chance to catch Mat, and indeed she tried very hard, but Nope! Not quite enough.

The other Zilch Warriors gave it their very best effort to catch Matt, in the last chance, but Nope, it did not happen!

So Matt won Saturday Night’s Zilch Game with a score of 4600!

Congratulations Marshall Mat, you really had your six guns blasting away at that Madam Guillotine!

And I must conclude she did not want to get blasted, so she gave you some good points!

Well Done, Extremely Well Done!
