hello humpers!

Was I the only one who thought today's Rumpus was SOLID GOLD!?  It had everything: water, the park, jet lag, poignant observations tai chi, and, best of all, Stephen lying on his back on a conference table at an office. The office. the Rumpus office? I figured the Rumpus was run out of some 22 year old nerdy kid's bedroom but...sure, maybe they pay for office space.  But in that case...stop begging for money at the end of the Rumpus.

It was cold yesterday in new york but my burlesque troupe had planned an early morning photoshoot on the Highline in the meatpacking district of NYC so I was up at 7:30 and playing outside for 2 hours in some skimpy outfits. The light was good but we were near the water so it was super windy.  There are 7 of us, we were dressed as punk rock Gaga-esque fairies and we definitely got attention.  It was fun.  A little boy said "Hi Princesses! Bye Princesses!" to us.  That made it a little less cold.

Then I went to see a mothers day burlesque show honoring the "mothers of burlesque" which was awesome.  The night after SNL makes the same "HAHA Betty White is OLD" joke in every sketch, I was really proud to be part of a community that reveres and honors its elders.  You dont get a lot of that; we're a culture obsessed with youth.  It's also amazing to feel like I'm part of a tradition of this genre of performance.  I know a lot of the performing arts communities revere their older members; it's nice to know that strippers are no different.  Also I got to see 2 legendary performers who are now in their 80s strut and strip. Eat that, SNL.

Gluten makes me anxious and depressed and I ate cake yesterday and today I just wanted to curl up in a ball and feel sorry for myself.  I also had to deliver some disappointing news to an author...basically, yeah, we used to pay for you to do that, but now you have to pay for it yourself which is what your contract says so just be happy you got a free ride this long.  They rarely see it that way, though.

I'm thinking about writing something about burlesque and how everyone talks about how it's breaking all these barriers with body image and blah blah but no one talks about old strippers and women who get into burlesque when they're older and how it makes them feel.  Age is an interesting issue/nonissue in the scene.  I dont think anyone has written anything about that outside of outlets specific to burlesque... think Stephen'd be into it?  hm...fuck that gimmie something that'll pay. (ideas?)

ok sleepytime.

keep it real, humpers!

STUFF ON THE INTERNET!

When I was sad earlier today my friend sent me this!  It's pretty great.

She's still no Hellcat Dream Girl (that's ME, fuckers) but... "Joanna Newsom Is No Manic Pixie Dream Girl": http://bit.ly/cygJc9

I forget how I stumbled onto this but it's a pretty interesting take on @mrskutcher. As I said on twitter, looks like Demi's career just got #PUNKD!

Yo, send me some money I'm all outta drugs.
