I have no idea what that means. I think I know what “you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs” means… but Gaga doesn’t even imply that anyone wants to eat a burger and judging from “Telephone,” if she did make me a burger it would come with poisonous Miracle Whip ™ so… I’m going to avoid diners for a while.
I was a vegetarian from age 14 to 20. I quit when I moved to France for a year, ostensibly to study, realistically, to eat. And drink. And grow up. I started with chicken with my first host family in Aix-En-Provence. I’m not sure when I first ate beef afterwards. I do know that when I moved to Paris after four weeks in Aix, my host family served steak tartare for brunch my first weekend there. Once presented with a bowl of raw cow being passed around a table…I had to make a burger.
So this weekend had highs and lows with food and booze but was ultimately good, which is impressive since it poured on Saturday and drizzled on Sunday and the weather makes me super mopey. The boy and I looked at an apartment together; it wasn’t right for us but it’s a start. We’re really doing this. Tips for cohabitating, anyone?
Tomorrow I head down to SXSW w. the boyfriend which is going to be a ridiculous adventure. I feel pretty privileged to be going. And I kinda like that I don’t need to be leading the way…I have, however, been put in charge of food. Fortunately I’m not afraid of taco trucks and I got a long list of “things to do in Austin when you’re gluten-free” from a college friend who teaches at UT. While I’m down there and living it up rock-blogger-style, I’m also meeting up with someone I was friends with in middle school whom I haven’t seen since maaaybe ninth grade? So…over 10 years ago? I bet she’s still a punk. We were all into Courtney Love n babydoll dresses n docs n thrift shops n being the cool, dark kind of awkward. Yeah middle school me was badass.
I have a lot of writing that I want to do on the plane. Most likely I’ll read or nap or watch inflight TV instead. Or bug the boyfriend when he’s trying to do real work.
I wonder if I’ll run into Stephen Elliott while I’m down there… doubtful. My first thought when I read that he was going down there (I read it on Twitter, which is still Twitter, no matter what year it is) was, “Ok seriously, every hipster and their moms IS going to Austin this year. Including me. It's funny what I have in common with Stephen Elliott.

I tried to narrate the events in Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video to the boy when he was lying down and couldn't see it…it was exhausting. I’m putting a food adventure up on my website which seriously needs to be designed and I also don’t want to pay someone to do it and I want to learn how to do web design beyond the very very basics I got in college, but I also want it now… so it seems illogical for me to pay to take a design class over the summer so that I can do it myself. But I might do that. Skillz.
