After
a bit of a break, welcome back. A few new things this week. Number
1 - the new web site is up for checking out. Visit emergedetroit.org for a view of
the new emerge detroit online tool for connecting the communities of
young Christians across the Detroit metro area. And Number 2 -
attached to each of these emails will now be a one page discussion
guide for any of you interested in gathering together friends or
co-workers weekly to talk about Jesus, question the faith, and explore
the stories from the Bible that give us insight into all of that. Number
3 - to compliment our web site, email devotion, and pdf discussion
guide the Emerge Detroit podcast will now be more intentionally a place
for interviews and witnesses from around our scattered community. That
'cast will be getting going again this coming weekend. We hope that in
providing these resources to you we can nurture the growth of an
organic collection of faith communities that relies on
many interested young people living intentionally for Jesus and finding
the power of God around them right here in metro Detroit.
I was thinking about this scattering and connection among faithful people this week as my friend Tony and I sat down to record a short video for our friends serving in the Peace Corps in Tanzania. In the simple act of saying hello into a camera we remembered them, and in remembering connected to their ministry there - some ten thousand mile across the ocean. What would it be like if we remembered and connected like that with people seeking to grow the radical community of Christ right around here where we live? What would it be like if from that remebering and connecting we moved to gathering, serving, and transforming the very local environment that surrounds us? I'm ready for it, are you? Yours in Christ, Carl Thomas Gladstone READ Luke 10:25-37 - Despite the challenge of a world that seeks to segment people into various categories of "other" Jesus tells of a man who embraces another because they are in need - and life happens. How can your seeking of "embrace" regarding others bring life to friends, family, neighborhoods? |

*For
those new to
this email list - each Thursday I send an e-message to students and
young adults connected with BHAM First UMC, and with the developing EMERGE
worship community for young adults. These emails are meant to
stay in touch with you, encourage you in your Christian journey, and
pose some faith-filled questions that might spark some email
correspondence. If you have any
questions about this list, just drop me an email at the address above.
Peace. |
