| Major Study Considers Priorities and Challenges in Global Internationalization Efforts |
| A new report released
by the European Parliament analyzes mobility efforts, "internationalization at
home," and other key activities and challenges experienced by 17 countries, 10
from Europe and seven from the rest of the world, reports Times Higher Ed. The
report also considers who benefits from internationalization initiatives and warns
of the possibility of compromised academic values in the face of growing economic
pressures. View
the report, which includes a chapter on internationalization in the United
States, written by John Hudzik, NAFSA Senior Scholar for Internationalization. |

| Korean International Schools Face Criticism for High Enrollment of Local Students |
| South Korea’s education
circles have criticized Korea’s international institutions for being flooded
with moneyed elites from local communities rather than the expatriate population
for which they were originally established. According to the Korea Herald, in 2013-2015,
South Korean students comprised over 70 percent of the student populations at
foreign institutions. Critics note that since international schools are exempt
from many educational policies that govern domestically run schools, they perpetuate
educational disparity in the Korean population. |

| GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC AFFAIRS UPDATE |
| NAFSA Urges Presidential Candidates to Support Student Immigration Reform |
| Over the past 10
years, NAFSA has diligently promoted the value of international student policies
that would make the United States more welcoming to the world’s talent. As a
result, there is broad and growing support amongst policymakers, business and
university leaders, and the general public for reforming the immigration system
to make it easier for international students to come and stay in the United States.
Now that the presidential campaign season is underway, NAFSA is actively engaged
in urging candidates to reform our immigration system. View the first of NAFSA's campaign
briefing papers we're sharing with the campaigns, and view NAFSA’s recent comment
on Donald Trump’s immigration plan. Also read commentary by the National
Foundation for American Policy against the current anti-immigration sentiment
playing out in some presidential campaigns. |
