I'm still here (although I don't use this email account much). Still
building & repairing audio gear, although I'm no longer making headphone
amps. Still playing bass but haven't played out much during the pandemic;
also, I badly fractured my heelbone last February, which put the kibosh on
standing for quite a while. I'd been mostly playing my G&L L2000 fretless
through a TC RH450 amp, but lately I'm back to my original bass, a Fender
acoustic/electric fretless. And an old Univox tube head that I fixed up for
a customer who then ended up selling it to me after some medical issues
rendered him unable to play... I keep meaning to sell it on, since I really
only need the RH450, but the Univox just has so much *character*!

It’s fun to see this get going again. After checking out the FB version, I
just wasn’t attracted to it and never went there again.
I’m still playing but very little bass. I developed ergonomic problems
after sitting at the computer most of my career in engineering & tech
writing. I am retired now.
I rehabbed my hands by completely changing course toward the end of my
working life. I did luthiery, something hands are made to do. Played a
little upright a few days ago at a jam and thoroughly enjoyed it…. And
without pain.
I’m having a lot of fun playing Appalachian old time on a fretless banjo
and I’m able to play Travis style guitar again. I’ve held into my basses &
amps. Bass is my first love and I’m staying open to the right opportunity.
Cheers: Steve

I am still here also. Still living in the frozen North that is Minnesota.
I am playing in a couple bands, the New Riverside Ramblers, straight Cajun
and the Swamp Poppas playing, of course, Swamp Pop. SP is a style of
Louisiana music where kinds who grew up playing in Cajun and Creole
families discover Rock'n'Roll. Also occasional subbing in Blues and Rock
bands.
I am retired from the IT day job and my new project is to see if I can make
an Acoustic bass guitar. I have one of the last Earthwood Basses out of the
factory. I am getting ideas from that and a few other acoustic bass
guitars. I am not at "Olde World Craftsman" level yet. I take heart from
the stories of Ernie Ball and Tom Fullerton problem solving the bellying up
behind the bridge on the original Earthwoods. Their solution, glue on
popsicle sticks they had laying around until it stopped bending. I am
capable of that level of engineering.
I love my Earthwood because it will play loud enough to keep up with
acoustic groups like Cajun, Bluegrass and Old time, without amplification.
I figure I will see what modern bracing and construction techniques will do
to the tone. So I am looking forward to years of playing in my shop.
Great to hear where everyone is at. I was very sad to hear of the passing
of Bob Golihur. I never made it to his shop but sure learned a lot from him.

Hi Everyone,
Nice to hear some voices from the past. In the list’s heyday I was living in Urbana Illinois doing a PhD. I moved to Montreal Quebec in 2004 and settled there. After rebalancing work and life to make more time for music, and then bouncing around projects for a few years, I have landed in 3 different bands, but the biggest news is that my wife took up drums in 2016 and she’s good! Like others, I’ve had hand issues, though mine is due to cancer meds. First I started using gloves (yes, like Scott’s bass lessons guy) but have also started playing touch guitars (descendants of the Chapman stick) which is also a lot less painful. My wife and I formed a duo during Covid and will be releasing our first record in 2023. Here’s some other music:

Oh, and in the 2000s I was in 2-bass band:
