to The Book of Mormon in the Classical Historywriting
When taking Israel as the promised land in 1Ne18:23 all events in the
BoM, could be traced in the same years in the classical History
books .

Earlier we identified Mormons Lehi as Biblical Jeremiah, Mormons
Ishmael as Biblical Ishmael, river Laman as the Nile-Red Sea Channel,
Irreantum as Eritrea and Nephi as captain for Necho II who sailed
around Africa.

The landfall of Lehi was in Lycia. Short after Lehi died and Nephi
was
contested as the new leader and left his brothers and ships in Lydia
and went on a journey northwards where he reached after many days
good
pasture. (Pontus).

After Nephi 1 and 2 and Ether there does not happen much in the BoM
till suddenly around 120bC the most important event of the BoM take
place: the unification of the lands of Nephi (Pontus)and Zarahemlah (
Scythia, later Khazaria)

1:13 And it came to pass that he did according as the Lord had
commanded him. And they departed out of the land into the wilderness,
as many as would hearken unto the voice of the Lord; and they were
led
by many preaching's and prophesying. And they were admonished
continually by the word of God; and they were led by the power of his
arm, through the wilderness, until they came down into the land which
is called the land of Zarahemla.
1:14 And they discovered a people, who were called the people of
Zarahemla. Now, there was great rejoicing among the people of
Zarahemla; and also Zarahemla did rejoice exceedingly, because the
Lord
had sent the people of Mosiah with the plates of brass which
contained
the record of the Jews.
This Mosiah became as well king over Zarahemlah in 120bC and was a
gifted translator.
1:19 And it came to pass that the people of Zarahemla, and of Mosiah,
did unite together; and Mosiah was appointed to be their king.
1:20 And it came to pass in the days of Mosiah, there was a large
stone
brought unto him with engravings on it; and he did interpret the
engravings by the gift and power of God.

So in order to continue our line of the reconsolidation of the BoM
with
the classical history we have to find in 120bC an expansive king, who
was a linguistic wonder. And who else could that be than Mithridates
6
of Pontus; de first scientist king of the world, who as an alchemist
found many serums, which he tried on his own body. Moreover he was a
linguistic scholar, who spoke more than 25 tongues fluently.

MITHRIDATES OF PONTUS (wikipedia)
Mithridates of Pontus (Mithridates VI, Eupator Dionysius, The Great)
120-63 BC. Much of his early career he spent as a fugitive and/or
engaged in killing off rivals in his family (not his sister, Laodice,
whom he married) and trying to take over near-by countries,
especially
Bithynia. He had considerable success, but he was opposed by the
Romans, especially after he orchestrated a massacre of Italians in
Asia
Minor in 88. Sulla drove him out of Greece & forced him to terms in
85,
though he resumed the fighting once Sulla hurried back to Rome to
face
Marius. Hostilities broke out anew when Rome annexed Bithynia. This
time Mithridates was defeated first by Lucullus and then by Pompey.
He
fled and tried to raise a new army, but could not. According to the
story, he had made himself immune to poisons by taking small does
over
a lifetime (a necessary precaution in the royal family) & could not
kill himself now with massive doses, so he died by the sword.
(Housman's "Mithridates, he died old").
Look here a confirmation of the text in the BoM, that he was not
forced
by his sons to poison himself,(why should he, he was immune) but died
normally in bed, of old age.

(The labour law dictionary)
Two curious legends are told of Mithridates VI of Pontus. First, he
was
supposed to have had a prodigious memory. He could speak twenty-five
languages, and to be able to address each soldier in his large armies
by name, and in his own tongue. This legend is alluded to in the
short
story Funes the Memorious by Jorge Luis Borges [1]
(http://www.bridgewater.edu/~atrupe/GEC101/Funes.html).From this
legend, several books that published samples of many languages were
entitled Mithridates.
The second legend is that Mithridates sought to harden himself
against
poisoning by taking increasing sub-lethal doses of the poisons he
knew
of until he was able to tolerate lethal doses. A. E. Housman alludes
to
this practice, also known as mithridatism. On account of this
regimen,
a universal antidote is sometimes called a mithridate.
This fear of poisoning -- rational for an ancient king -- is said to
have taken a darkly poetic turn; when Mithridates was at last
defeated
by Pompey and in danger of capture by Rome, he is alleged to have
attempted suicide by poison, but he couldn't take enough of the stuff
to kill him and had instead to fall on his sword. In any case, vast
improvements in the art of poisoning have been made since 63 BC, and
tolerance against all known poisons cannot be built up in this
manner;
some, in fact, become more lethal on account of a cumulative effect.
In
other words, don't try this at home.

Opposite Pontus, which lies on the North coast of Turkey, on the
other
side of the Black Seas, between the Wolga and the Don, inclusive the
Crimea was an area in 120bC called Scythia, (later Gothia and still
later Khazaria), that made a pact with Pontus, while the Crimea was
anexed by Mithridates 6, an excellent choice for the Mormon land of
Zarahemlah.

(from the site of Ukrainian Heraldry)
Kerch was founded in the 6th century bC by Milesians as Panticapaeum
(Pantikapaion?); with surrounding territory formed kingdom of the
Cimmerian Bosporus, which was later conquered by Mithridates of
Pontus.
It was held by Huns, Khazars and other invaders of Crimea
.
Omni 1:15 Behold, it came to pass that Mosiah discovered that the
people of Zarahemla came out from Jerusalem at the time that
bZedekiah,
king of Judah, was carried away captive into Babylon.

So the BoM gives an explanation of the origin of the Russian Jews as
well.
