Urban Threshold's Underground Music Awards is the biggest and
brightest national award show for indie artists.
Slick Rick, MOP, GrandMaster Flash, The Force MD's, Kid Capri, DJ Red
Alert, Marley Marl, MC Shan, Kool G. Rap & More have all been honored
at Urban Threshold's Underground Music Awards
Additionally, Saigon, Remy Ma, Styles P, Mims, Papoose, Joel Ortiz,
Maino, Serius Jones, Graph, Killah Priest, Cormega & more are all past
winners of Urban Threshold's Underground Music Awards
Equally important, major press such as MTV, The Source, XXL Magazine,
Don Diva Magazine, Showtime & more have all covered the UMA's.
Urban Threshold's Underground Music Awards is a national award show
that breaks all of the rules of conventionalism. Unlike the Grammy
Awards or the Billboard Music Awards, the Underground Music Awards
were created to acknowledge and honor the achievements and
contributions of unsigned and independent artists within the urban
music scene. Every year there are incredible records released by
independent labels and artists. Very rarely do the institutional
accolades of the music industry reach or embrace independent music or
the community of artists and fans who now represent 25% of all global
music sales. Hence, the Underground Music Awards Program was born to
fill that void.
After 6 very successful years, Urban Threshold Enterprises Inc.
continues to make it their top priority to bring together music
professionals, artists, DJ's, fans, media outlets and more to network,
build relationships and celebrate the culture of independent urban
music. The Underground Music Awards combines the elements of an award
show, a music conference, an informational seminar, and an
entertainment showcase into one lively event.
Moreover, It features and participants, from all over the world,
representing the full spectrum of underground Hip Hop, R&B, Gospel,
and Reggae music and fashion as a global phenomenon. The 3 day event
is packed with panel discussions, artist showcases, networking
opportunities, product demonstrations and the awards ceremony.
The 2008 Underground Music Awards was held at the world famous BB
Kings Concert Hall in New York City's Times Square. Last year's award
show marked one of the year's most celebrated events in NYC. Special
Awards were presented to the legendary Slick Rick and DJ Pioneer
GrandMaster Flash. The '08 UMA's received extensive coverage from
Clear Channel's Power 105.1FM, the Source Magazine, and All Hip
Hop.com. These media outlets have pledged to support the UMA's in
2009. The excitement and buzz of the 2008 awards show was only
paralleled by its overall support and attendance. As the date of the
2009's show draws near, the same sense of anticipation is growing.
The 2009 Underground Music Awards Weekend is scheduled to take place
in NYC on August 21st, 22nd & 23rd. The legendary BB Kings Concert
Hall in the heart of NYC's Times Square will play host to the awards
ceremony. The event will be a star-studded mega musical show with
performances by the nominees, featured major label acts and
appearances by film and fashion celebrities
HOW TO SUBMIT MUSIC FOR NOMINATION CONSIDERATION
FOR THE 7TH ANNUAL UNDERGROUND MUSIC AWARDS 2009
Rules and Regulations For Sumbission for the 2009 UMAs
PHASE 1: SUBMISSION PHASE
In order to compete, contestants must submit a 2 to 3 song mastered
demo CD, a typed biography including a picture, and a non-refundable
$30 processing/entry fee via mail or email. In addition submissions
will be accepted for models and graffiti artists. The models and
graffiti artists must submit 2 photos of their work along with the $30
processing/entry fee.
PHASE 2: NOMINATION PHASE
The call for entries will close as of June 19th, 2009. A nominating
committee appointed by the executive board will review the
submissions. Once the committee has reviewed the submissions, they
will choose no more than 4 artists per category for nomination. The
nominations will be released on July 1st, 2009. The nominees will be
contacted and notified of their nomination. An artist can be nominated
for more than one category.
PHASE 3: FINAL VOTING PHASE
The winners of the Underground Music Awards are determined via Online
voting by the general public. A music clip and the name of each
nominee within the individual categories will be placed on Urban Buzz
Factor.com. On July 6th, 2009, the public will be able to vote for the
winners of each category via online voting on Urban Buzz Factor.com.
The voting process ends on August 6th 2009. The nominee who receives
the most online votes will win for the category he/she is competing
in.
In addition there will be special awards presented for: Lifetime
Achievement, Community Give back, Best Website, Best magazine, Best
DVD magazine, A&R of the year, Video director of the year, Best up and
coming urban fashion designer, and Best underground DJ.
The nominees will compete in the following categories:
1. Best Male Rapper 2. Best Female Rapper 3. Best Rap Group 4. Best
R&B Male 5. Best R&B Female 6. Best Reggae/Dance Hall artist 7.
Underground Producer of the Year 8. Best Indie Album 9. Best

at the 7th Annual Underground Music Awards ceremony to be held on
08/23/09 as part of the UMA weekend of August 21st, 22nd, 23rd 2009 at
the BB Kings Theatre in NYC. Each winner will receive an official
Underground Music Award trophy. There will be special guest
performances, a fashion show, and comic relief at the ceremony. In
addition, you can expect a great after-party following the award show.
