There are a lot of exciting
things happening at the shop in the next few months. We hope you
can join us for one or more of them.
The shop will be closed next week (October 18-23) so we can attend
the Association of Michigan Basketmakers annual convention. There
will be four or five people from the shop attending, so hopefully
we will bring back some interesting baskets and goodies. If you
have the chance to get to Grand Rapids, there is a Public Day
planned where you can shop the vendors, see the exhibit room and
maybe get inspired to join us next year at convention. More
information can be found at http://www.michiganbasketmakers.com
If you need anything brought back from the vendors, please let me
know and I will try to get it for you.
Although the shop will be closed next
week regular Open Weave classes with Helen will still take
place on Tuesday, October 19, from 9:30am-12:30pm and
6pm-9pm.
Saturday November 6 will be a great day. Huron Valley Council for
the Arts (HVCA) is sponsoring "Finding Mona", a gallery and studio tour. There are over a dozen venues that are opening their
doors to participants. You will
be able to meet artists, see how and where they create their work,
and enter to win a raffle prize at each stop. Tickets are $10, available through HVCA or
through Kathy at the shop. Children under 11 are free. We will
have a nice basket for raffle and will be doing simple pencil
baskets for a small charge. More information can be found at www.huronvalleyarts.org.
On Monday, November 15 from 5pm-9pm we will again be participating
at the Huckleberry Railroad and Crossroads Village Ladies Night
Out. Last year was a lot of fun. There are activities out in the
village and lots of crafts and demonstrations throughout the
evening. Tickets are $5 per person. More information is
available at www.geneseecountyparks.org/christmas_LNO.htm
Just to make November even more fun, we are participating in
HVCA's Arts and Greens Holiday Market the weekend of November
19-21 at Bogie Lake Greenhouse. This is the perfect place to have
an art show with all the plants, greenery, demonstrations and
music. More information will be out as we get closer to the date.
We are having one class this holiday season. Nina and Kathy will teach
German Stars and Carolina Snowflakes on December 4 from 10am-2pm.
It will probably take an hour or so to make each of them, so plan
your time when it's convenient. Cost is $4 for 2 stars or 1 small
snowflake and $10 for a large snowflake. Registration is online
at www.thebasketsampler.com
or call Kathy at 248-889-8600.
If you are in need of something to do for your youth or adult
group, we can schedule a mini class for you. We have done
birthday parties, Red Hat groups, senior citizen classes both at
the shop and at other locations. Call Kathy and let her know what
you need! One of the most fun mini classes we did over the summer
was for several little girls who were going to be flower girls in
weddings. They came in and helped with their baskets. They only
did a few rows, (they were 3-5 years old!) but they had a good
time. Here are their results:
