There will not be an evening class through the
summer, except by request.
We will be closed for the holidays on July 2
and September 3.
The store will also be closed Wednesday July
28, as I will be teaching an off site class.
For
those who have asked about Bobbin Lace classes, we are pleased to offer
a special opportunity to take a beginning or continuing bobbin lace
class at The Basket Sampler. The class will be held Saturday and
Sunday, August 14 and 15, from 10am-3pm each day. There will be 8
hours of instruction for a cost of $20. Equipment is available for use
during the class for no extra charge. The class is sponsored by The
Great Lakes Lace Group, and will be taught by Kathleen Campbell. There
will be several small patterns available that should be able to be done
during the class period. This class is limited to eight students, so
don’t delay in signing up.
We have a new selection of baskets for sale in the showroom that are
hand made by Christine Schwartz. They are a Nantucket style basket
with hand spun yarns woven in. They are very unique and need to be
seen
(and touched!) to be appreciated. The yarns are just beautiful and
make for a one of a kind basket.

Rebecca Arrington has also been
busy with some gourd work. She is doing a great job with cleaning,
carving, staining and decorating the gourds. She has graciously
offered to clean some gourds for us to have at the store so we can
experiment with them as well. Let me know if you are interested in
“playing” with some gourds and we will get a class together.

One of our newer weavers, Sue Patty, is also using hand spun yarn, but
her yarn is Alpaca right from her own animals! She has spun up a bunch
of it, both natural and dyed, and wove it into a double wall basket
that will eventually go to the people that take care of her animals.
It is really exciting to see what can be done with the mixing of
different materials.
