The end of summer is just around the corner with
Labor Day happening this weekend. That means The Basket Sampler
will resume its regular Tuesday class schedule starting next
week. Tuesday morning class will be from 9:30am-12:30pm and the
Tuesday evening class will resume from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Other
classes will be scheduled by appointment.
My husband is recovering well from his broken shoulder, but will
be unable to drive until February. That means I get to drive
him to work and to physical therapy when he starts that. I will
do my best to arrange times outside shop hours, but please give
a call before you come to make sure someone is at the shop.
Several people have offered to be at the shop if I can't be, so
if I have to step out for a bit, there is still a pretty good
chance someone can help you with what you need.
I am excited that we will be able to continue with our rug
hooking classes. Suzanne Sandvik has offered to return for
classes starting Monday, September 23. The class will be from
3:00pm-5:00pm on Mondays. Give Kathy a call for more
information. This is a technique where you take a strip of wool
and make a loop through a background. Many loops of beautiful
hand dyed wools later you get a beautiful picture. There is
only one stitch to learn, and we really enjoyed the classes we
had in the spring. Can't wait to get started again!
There are many shows that The Basket Sampler will be
participating in through the end of the year. Starting with the
Michigan Festival of Gourds, September 12-15. I will be
teaching a class on weaving with basket material on gourds.
More information is on their website
http://www.michiganfestivalofgourds.com/
I had a really good time at this festival last year. There is
also a wood carver gathering at the same location and date.
October brings the Association of Michigan Basketweavers annual
convention-October 16-20 at the Best Western Hotel in Lansing.
Classes are still available and are on the AMB's website on the
Events tab
http://www.michiganbasketmakers.com/
Even if you can't take a class, there will be a vendor area, and
the exhibit room will have many of the baskets from the Michigan
State exhibit from a few years ago. It will be great to see
some of those baskets in person again. Lansing is close enough
for a day trip, so join us to see what is going on.
The next weekend, October 26 and 27, we will be attending the
Fiber Expo in Ann Arbor. I will be teaching two classes there-a
wool drying basket and a tapestry style basket with different
yarns woven in. Check out all the available classes and there
will be three rooms full of vendors to shop at.
November 2 and 4 we are going to participate in the Flint
Institute of Arts First Frost Art Fair
http://flintarts.org/events/artfairs.html
. This will be followed by The Black Sheep Weavers sale which
will be December 6 and 7. We will have a busy time getting
baskets woven for all these events. Watch for more information
on them as the dates get closer.
Hope to see you soon either in a class or at one of the shows we
will be attending. Have a safe Labor Day Weekend-
Kathy
