Welcome Spring at the Basket Sampler.  Easter is April 8, so now is the time to get your baskets made.  We have several already made up to purchase, and it's not too late to have some custom colors dyed for your choice of basket.  Join us for a regular scheduled class with Helen on Tuesdays, or give Kathy a call and set up your own time.  Easter baskets would make a great 4H or scout project as well.
Bunny Baskets (they even have a tail in the back)

We had a couple of great gourd classes at the beginning of March with Catherine Devine from London. Ontario.  Catherine and her husband Gary came in on Friday to clean and seal enough gourds for the weekends classes.  I really appreciated that they did this and learned a lot of their process of getting the gourds ready.  They had some really interesting, simple tools that made it look easy.  The Saturday class was coiling with Danish cord on the gourds.  Sunday, we coiled with pine needles and waxed linen.  It was a very relaxing process to coil and wrap.  Catherine was very patient with those of us who had never touched either a gourd or pine needles, and the results were fantastic.

Sybil Phelps, who brought the interest in gourds to the shop, is the featured artist at Main Street Art.  They feature different artists who have their pieces displayed in the front window of their shop in downtown Milford.  If you get a chance to shop in Milford before April 6, take a look at some of the unique pieces Sybil has recently done.  Sybil uses a number of different techniques, and tries to use natural materials as often as possible.  More pictures of her gourds will be on the website on the gourd tab soon.

We have had a lot of 4H kids in to work on their projects for fair.  There is a page on the website that shows some of the baskets that we recommend for each 4H year.  Other baskets can be arranged.  Contact Kathy if you are interested in scheduling a class.  All fair baskets should be started one month before fair to make sure you have time to complete them before the night before fair!  Several groups have been making bobbin lace for fair entry as well.  For any kids that are off school for Easter break on Wednesday, April 11, we have set that day aside for you to work on your projects.  Please contact Kathy to select your basket before that date.

Enjoy this wonderful weather while it lasts.  Hope to see you soon.
