New Faculty
Our 2019 Barn Junior production of Roald Dahl’s “James and the Giant Peach” will be directed and music directed by Cassandra Pettigrew. Cassandra is the current Music Teacher and Director at Cure’ of Ars Catholic School.
Cassandra received her BME at University of Central Missouri and Masters in Music Education from Central Methodist University.
She has taught for seven years and also gives private voice and piano lessons. Cassandra has Music Directed for the Theatre Department at Johnson County Community College and has helped prepare theater vocalists for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Cassandra will be assisted by Beate Pettigrew, the Chair for the Department of Music, Theatre, and Recording Arts and the Artistic Director for the theatre department at Johnson County Community College.
Beate has an MA in theatre from the University of Kansas and graduated magna cum laude with an MFA in Theatre Direction.
Nationally, Beate has been involved with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for over 30 years, serving as Region V’s Chair, National Chair of Chairs, National Selection Team, Student Dramaturg Coordinator, Directing Initiatives Coordinator, and the National Irene Ryan Acting Audition Coordinator. She is honored to have twice received the Kennedy Center Medallion of Excellence for her service.
Beate is proud to be the Immediate Past Artistic Director of the The Barn Players and is still on The Barn Players Advisory Board.
New Rehearsal Space
Rehearsals will be at Prairie Baptist Church at 7416 Roe Ave, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Auditions will be October 21 (Sunday) from 6-7:30pm and October 27 (Saturday) from 1-3pm. Rehearsals will be throughout November and December, working around the holidays and the end of the school semester, and into January, when we will move into the performance space. Speaking of which...
New Performance Space
All five performances will be held at The Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center at 8788 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66212 on Thursday, January 17 and Friday, the 18th at 7:30 p.m., shows at 2:00 and 7:30 on the 19th and a 2:00 matinee on Sunday the 20th.
Students from grades 7-12 are eligible to be Barn Juniors. There is no tuition for this program.
