October 2010 Newsletter

Broadway's longest running rock opera is coming to the Barn!

Opening November 5th, RENT is a Pulitzer prize-winning musical based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Bohme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. With music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, RENT made it's premiere in 1996, and this touching tale of love, loss and complicated relationships has been performed around the world thousands of times since.

AUDITIONS:

Barn Junior productions, featuring high school and middle school kids from around the Kansas City Metro area, will go Into The Woods in January!

Into The Woods, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine, is a fractured fairy tale. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy in the style of "The Princess Bride" becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

Auditions wil be held
Saturday, October 30th from 1pm 4pm
Monday, November 1st from 6pm 9pm
