2011 Season Draws To A Close
With only our Annual 6x10 Original Play Festival left in 2011, I want to thank the casts, crews and audiences who have made The Barn's 56th season so memorable. This year we have seen Eva Peron and Richard Nixon, a Drowsy Chaperone and lots of Aristocats grace our stage. Our diverse actor pool has ranged from eight to eighty, truly making The Barn your Community Theatre. I speak for the entire Board when I wish you all a happy and safe holiday season. I look forward to seeing you at The Barn in 2012.

Risser To Be Musical Liaison
The Barn is excited to add Martha Risser to our Advisory Board as our Musical Liaison. In this position, Martha will compile contact information for local musicians. It is our hope that through this endeavor, we will be able to help not only our directors find musicians but also other groups needing help.
Martha Risser is a retired music educator. Her 31-year career included teaching and supervising the vocal music program for the NKC School District. She currently is a part time instructor at William Jewell College. Martha has been music director for numerous productions for the Barn Players, Theatre in the Park, Leawood Stage and Padgett Productions.

EXPECTATION and PREPARATION:
Auditions will consist of singing a prepared 32 bar selection of a musical theatre or pop/rock song in the style of the show.
Please Provide:
* Sheet Music or a backing track (CD player will
be provided)...no CDs with a vocal track & no ACAPPELLA auditions will
be allowed. Wear proper attire for the dance audition. Time
permitting there will be cold readings from the script.
* Headshot/Resume (if available)
Invited Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, December 13th. New auditions will be held from 7:00pm-7:30pm, with callbacks beginning at 7:45pm. If you are auditioning, please make sure to clear your schedule that evening, as callbacks are critical to putting together the strongest ensemble for this ensemble piece.
Rehearsals will begin January 2nd. Typical weekly rehearsal schedule will be Sunday through Thursday nights from 7:00pm-10:00pm. Conflicts with the rehearsal schedule must be kept to an absolute minimum during the rehearsal process. No conflicts will be accepted during dress / tech week (February 19th-23rd)

SYNOPSIS:
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is a story about the triumph of the common man. The hero is a window washer named J. Pierrepont Finch. After Finch happens upon a book entitled 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying', he decides to begin his rise up the corporate ladder. Following the instructions of the book, Finch lands a job in the mailroom at the World Wide Wicket Company. With the help of his handy book, Finch quickly gains promotions and outsmarts his rival, Bud Frump - who also happens to be the boss's nephew. Finch then gains the love of Rosemary, a secretary at the company. In the end, however, after Finch's ad campaign goes awry, the book can no longer help him. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and currently a smash hit on Broadway starring Daniel Radcliffe.

SYNOPSIS:
THE GIRL WHO WAS PLUGGED IN - A homeless bag-lady whose soul is transplanted into the body of a gorgeous female android by a company which manufactures celebrities. The show is a one-act musical containing a curious mix of a science fiction framework around traditional themes - the generation gap, a love triangle and the archetypal conflict between those who have power and those who have.
STRIKING 12 - On New Year's Eve, an over-worked and under-inspired single guy who's had enough of holiday cheer makes a resolution: to stay home and go to bed early. On another New Year's Eve, a continent away-and more than a century earlier-Hans Christian Andersen's Little Match Girl tries unsuccessfully to sell her matches in the snow. The two stories are brought together when a young woman selling special "full-spectrum holiday light bulbs" to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder shows up at the grumpy man's door. Though the man (who probably could use the bulbs) seems to enjoy the young woman's company, he sends her away. It's not until he reads "The Little Match Girl" that he is finally pulled out of his funk. All of this unfolds through a tuneful pop/rock/jazz score that retains the vibrant style of its original performers: the celebrated band, GrooveLily.
