Just wanted to share my excitement with everyone. We have been
approved for an autism service dog for our son!!! The training center
is now looking for a puppy to train for him. This dog will prevent
him from bolting from us and keep him safe while out and about. I
will actually have two hands to shop and wonder what that will feel
like. The dog will give him more independence that he wants while
keeping him safe. There are so many ways the dog will help him but
those are the biggest. This dog will be a huge blessing.

I miss seeing everyone on here. Hope you are all well and I hope this
new site picks up to the pace it once was.

Blessings,
Jen

I am so happy for you. I have a very good friend and her son got his
service dog a few months ago. WOW it's made him so social. He will
talk to everyone about his dog Teddy. He first had a temp. dog but
made the adjustment very well when Teddy came to live with him. He
even has on the answering machine that Teddy isn't home right now.
It's so best thing for him. My friends son is 14. How old is yours? I
hope your son is just as successful. It is a blessing. Praise God..
Hope it doesn't take to long. Best of luck to you.

I sure miss the old group too.

Our son just turned 7 and the trainer said it will be 15-24 months to
train the dog so we have the tough part now of waiting. I know this
dog will provide so many social opportunities for him. Right now most
of his peers in school find it too hard to try to communicate and/or
socialize with him. His language is very limited and its hard for
them to get his attention (hard for me too). I know a dog will
motivate his classmates to socialize with him. I remember how excited
kids got whenever an animal was in school growing up. Right now he
only gets attention from the girls (partly because they like to
"mother him" and partly because he's so stinkin' cute!). ;)
