Dear Joe and Harry,

I have been meaning to send you a cheque until this note below from
Godfrey Philips prompted me to get off my back. After Trevor Vanderputt,
is there anybody more passionate about hockey than Godfrey ? These two
gentlemen have put "Anglo Indian Hockey" on the Aussie map !

I was privileged to be in the exalted company of Trevor playing both
hockey and cricket for the Calcutta Rangers Club in the 60s with Charlie
Crizzle leading the charge under Norman Nyss' management ! When I
arrived in Sydney in May 1969 it was Trevor who introduced me to his
Manly Hockey Club for whom I played in their first team for a few years
before deciding to give up hockey and concentrate on my cricket career
with the Manly Grade Cricket Club where I am now a life member. My
friendship with Godfrey (as with the young Noel Fench) through hockey in
Sydney has remained steadfast since.

Congratulations to "Anglos In The Wind" for getting this tournament
together while paying homage to the two legends of the Calcutta
"Maidan". My humble donation of $100 is in the mail to you Joe. Keep up
the good work !

Kind regards
Ron Holmes

A note to AITW's Reuben from Lester deMonte the father of 17 year old
Dayne deMnte from Melbourne who is taking part in this tournament.

Dear Reuben,
Not a problem at all. He will be fully prepared in this aspect of
things. He has packed and ready to leave next Tuesday the 14th Feb for
Chennai. He will be in Chennai on the 15th and will contact you soon
after. Is there an itinerary for the games and the names of players he
will be playing with?
He seems a little bit nervous and will be so I guess until the 1st game
but nevertheless still looking forward to the opportunity.
Thank you once again for the prompt emails.
God Bless
Regards
Lester & Maria deMonte

Hi Joe,
Here is my cheque for $100. I promised $50, but what the heck at age 91
I haven't got much longer on this planet and they say "you can't take it
with you," so I thought I'd add a few bucks extra.  Sorry for the delay.
I raised the cheque on 23rd January, but just then a nasty bug decided
to make the rounds of the 60 aged people in this Hostel, and they put a
strict Quarantine on us. No-one could visit us, and we were confined to
our rooms. We could not set foot outside our door, and our food was
brought to us in our individual rooms on a tray. The Staff had masks
covering their mouths and noses and looked like gangsters.
I rang my son to bring me in library books to read. He got me four books
from the Norwood Library and handed them in for me at the front door of
the facility, and the "gangsters" brought them up to me.

When the quarantine ended, I found that my leg muscles had gone soft or
"out-of-condition" and I could hardly walk, but they soon came back to
life once I could leave my room.  They kept disinfecting the rooms (and
us) and the cheque was brushed aside among all the debris on my table.
We are now out of quarantine, thank goodness, so I can run down to the
postbox.  Again, sorry for the delay. Best wishes for the Hockey
tournament,
Warm regards,
Stan.             (The good-humored Stan Blackford is the author of the
book entitled "One Helluva Life"  He had been to 10 (ten) schools in
India.

Hi Joe
This is just a short note to say that I have enclosed a cheque for
$300/- towards sponsorship for the hockey tournament.  Really I would
love to be there and have a couple of games myself with the boys but
unfortunately I can't make it.  Hope that all goes well as planned.
Take care Joe and all the very best.
God Bless
David Quinn.
