Recently I purchased a 79 Bassman Ten. I know that it's not the best
bass amp out there, but for the price I couldn't say no.

It's been pretty good for me so far, but I am having trouble getting a
good "thump" out of it when I play bass. I even use my Sans Amp Deluxe
with it and still no luck.

So, should I replace the speakers with ones that will get me more
thump? If so, what speakers should I get?

**I am not interested in getting this worked on or modded

Thanks

Thump? I think you are
looking for clean...you try a speaker with a power handling capability
way past--at least double--what your amp can dish out. Look for large
diameter
voice coils.

Bassman 10's are what they are...I'm sure you'll reach an understanding
with it.

good luck...kt

First, I think you should be aware of what is in your Bassman 10 to begin
with. Are they the original speakers? That could go a long way in
determining what you need. Also, bear in mind that this is a 40 watt amp,
not a lot of beef for bass in today's environment. Don't get me wrong, I
love them and think they have a killer sound. So, first be sure you use the
bass channel for bass. The "Studio" channel rolls off the bass significantly
and is better suited for guitar. I love mine, coupled with a reverb pedal it
provides tons of crunch and body and sounds very Super Reverbish although I
do not have the original bass speakers. Mine has what Fender put into their
4x10s in the recent years, by Eminence. I bought the amp used ... sorry,
can't recall model numbers, but would look if asked nicely :-). By the
way, another common problem with these is the clips on the speakers falling
off from vibration. When you check the speaker type you should also check
the wiring.. I fixed one for a client in just that manner. He was only
playing on two speakers and the impedance was also thereby off causing a
loss of power.

Thanks
