Hive Inspection Class - on Zoom

Learn how to do a thorough inspection of your beehive and keep the bees calm!

Part 1:  Sunday, April 11th, 9am - 10:30am

Part 2:  Sunday, May 2nd, 9am - 10:30am
$50, recordings included

Optional in-person hive inspection on April 26th to give you hands-on experience.

Inspecting is complicated to learn, as you are learning multiple things at once:  what calm vs defensive bee behavior looks like, how to use the tools so you can get the hive apart efficiently and also keep the bees calm, how to ID what is in the hive, and what your inspection goals are.  During the pandemic I started teaching this class online, and it is great to talk first about inspecting without the bees (to distract), and then add in the presence of the bees..  I encourage you also to come to a live hive inspection on April  26th.  I will continue to have hive inspections this summer to reinforce your skills.

Intro to Backyard Beekeeping - on Zoom
Part 1:  Sunday, April 12th, 6:30pm - 8pm

Part 1:  Sunday, April 19th, 6:30pm - 8pm

Learn what you need to know to feel ready to have a Langstroth backyard beehive – how to get bees, what equipment you need, where to put the hive, what the bees need, and what you need to learn/do to keep your bees healthy.  This class is tailored to urban beekeeping in the San Francisco Bay Area climate.  If you are a beginning beekeeper, you may also want to apply to my bee mentorship program (begins March 12).

Instructor: Jennifer Radtke has been keeping bees in her backyard for 20+ years, and has developed the beekeeping education program at the Oasis. She was ACBA Vice-President for 3 years.  She has mentees from Berkeley/Oakland to Marin to Livermore to Martinez, so she knows what's going on in all the microclimates of the Bay Area.
