Hi Folks! A reminder that tonight's (February 17) ACBA Zoom-only meeting at 7:30 PM will be a presentation by Dr. Fernando A. Fleites-Ayil, on the topic of Pathogen spillover: a threat for native stingless bees.
Pathogen spillover is a major threat to biodiversity, and this talk explores how viruses from honeybees spread to native stingless bees -- and what that tells us about the threat to other species.
About the speaker: Fernando earned his PhD degree in Biology from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. He is interested in host-parasite interactions, particularly spillover events involving tropical insects including stingless bees, ecology of social and solitary bees, behavior of social bees, and pollination services provided by eusocial and solitary bees in the tropics.
