On behalf of the MDBA Board, I am writing to share the sad news that Norm Lott passed away this past Sunday, May 19th at Kaiser Hospital Walnut Creek.
Norm was a respected and much-loved friend and mentor who generously shared his vast knowledge of honeybees and beekeeping with others. Over the years, he was a frequent participant on panel discussions for monthly Member Education programs; in 2016, he was awarded Beekeeper of the Year. More recently, Norm moved beyond beekeeping and swarm collection to concentrate on artificial insemination and queen rearing and he became an important resource within MDBA for queen bees. Norm touched all he met with his generosity of spirit, enthusiasm for beekeeping and his unwavering support for MDBA.
Please keep Joan and their family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
Many of
us knew Norm, or knew of him as a local queen producer who
specialized in
easy-going demeanor. He was one of the old-timers in the bay
area beekeeping scene.
