Hi All,
I want to share my findings and want check if someone else also experience same.
I live is Fremont, South Sundale area and recently my whole neighborhood got sprayed by Agricultural department for Fruit files infestation.

I did inspect my hive before the spray and everything was normal, but when inspect few days back found out whole colony died.
Strangest observation was the condition I found bees and queen; it was like they died while working.
Initially I was surprised and not able to conclude the cause, but talking my neighbors help me remind that South Sundale got highly sprayed continuously for few weeks.
I did remind the department people about location for active hive but every week new people were showing up to do the job.

Looking for help understand better if my finding are correct or not.

Regards,
Hami

Hi Hammad,

I am also located in South Sundale.

Currently both are my hives are very active. One hive was recently requeened in Feb.

I will keep my eye out for sudden die off, but so far I haven't noticed anything.

Do you know where the spraying took place?

Thanks for the Info. I am in a little south, between Laiolo and Davis, but I will keep an eye on my hives these next few day to see if I notice anything strange.

Why not call them and ask what insecticide they are using and if it is considered harmful to bees and what time of day they are spraying.  You could confine the bees to the hive during that time and until the product is dry, if that makes sense to do. First step is to get info about the product being used.

From the attached form, looks like Spinosad GF-120 NF Naturalyte

Spinosad and Naturalyte aren't supposed to have negative impacts on honey bees (then again, I'm always skeptical).

Spinosad's impact on stingless bees (conclusion, little or no impact on foraging):

Some documentation here, which states that Spinosad "contains the allergen soybean oil. This product is highly toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment, drift or residues on blooming plants."

Admittedly, I googled and only scanned 15-20 minutes for information, but I expected a TON more research and documentation on this (organic) pesticide's impact on honey bees.

Proceed with caution. I'd shut your bees in when they spray and until the residue dries.

Christine

Hami,

Can you text me at 720-939-4500.

I don't have spare bees right now, but often need to offload swarms/splits and live very close to you.

I am not an ecpert in pesticide , yet some are target pesticide and do not affect the bees .
I have found that some “Gardeners” and property owner do spray with pesticides whicjh are bee killers , some can last up to a year . And are readily available at your local home improvement store by the pallet .
For them it is all about making a buck .
