This message came into the website.  As a club we don't have the bandwidth to manage a project like this, but it could be interesting for one or two beekeepers to take on.
If interested please contact Susan Filice.

Subject: Exploring a Beekeeping Partnership with Stoneridge Creek Retirement Community

Dear Alameda County Beekeepers Association,

My name is Susan Filice, and I serve as the Life Enrichment Director at Stoneridge Creek, an independent living, active, forward-thinking retirement community in Pleasanton focused on well-being, purpose, and meaningful engagement for our residents.

We are exploring the possibility of launching a Golden Hive Bee Program on our campus—an initiative designed to connect residents with nature, support local pollinators, and offer unique hands-on learning experiences. Our vision is to create a collaborative partnership guided by expert beekeepers who can advise us on best practices, safety, hive placement, and ongoing care.  I recently met someone that successfully launched a program like this in Canada at their community.

Ideally, we would like to establish two onsite hives (final location determined with your expertise) and offer residents opportunities to participate in:
• Guided hive visits and learning sessions
• Seasonal honey harvesting
• Beeswax projects (candles, crafts, etc.)
• Educational talks about pollinators, sustainability, and local ecology
• Observation and light involvement in hive maintenance as appropriate

We deeply value responsible stewardship, and we want to ensure that any beekeeping activities at Stoneridge Creek follow best-practice standards and benefit both the bees and our surrounding environment.

I would welcome the opportunity to speak with someone from your organization to learn more about your programs, explore whether a partnership might be possible, and discuss next steps. Your guidance would help us establish a safe, ethical, and enriching experience for our residents while contributing positively to local pollinator health.

Thank you for the important work you do in Alameda County.  My office number is 925-474-1229

Mimi

I reached out to Susan.  They’ll make a great addition to our community our outreach education program and it’s a bonus that they are in Pleasanton.   We need more volunteers in my neck of the woods.
