Last weekend at the club apiary we made two splits.
1. Split with mother queen
2. Split with medium frames
3. Original hive has no queen.
I did check them on Thursday which i recommend to do right after splits. As i suspected split with mother queen's hive that number of bees are alot less than last Saturday. We even shake extra bees considering many bees will fly back. I added more bees.
Original hive
There were over 10 queen cells and majority of them were capped. Today i will stop by and harvest extra queen cells by using roller cage with my new clips. And place them in the same hive till emerge.
Miller frame- there are 5 queen cups but there were no larves. At this point it is too late for them to make cells. I think it is logistics issue that there were no brood activity at the bottom deep box where this Miller frame was placed. But they tried.
Medium split- it had only one queen cell. I gave them sugar syrup by the entrance. It was all leaked that cap was not tightly closed? . Inside of the floor was wet with syrup. But no bees were drawn.
By next weekend we will see emerged queens on both split. Depending on how many i am able to cage in the rollers will remain to see.
Here is options for May 30th hive dive.
I can bring mating nuc boxes for mating purpose. However many extra queens emerged i can place them for mating. And check back for another two weeks.
