Alameda County Beekeepers Association Meeting: Tuesday 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Join us for our free in-person monthly meeting on Tuesday (tomorrow as a I write this)! Our speaker will be Ukrainian filmmaker Lana Shapoval, speaking about Honeybees in Wartime: The Minefields Honey Project in Ukraine.
Beekeeping holds a special place in war-torn Ukraine today. While pesticides and parasites may pose a threat to honeybees worldwide, in Ukraine it is the honeybee that can flourish where mankind is imperiled. After over ten years of war, and nearly four since the full-scale invasion, Ukraine may now be the most heavily mined country on earth. But where man cannot tread, the honeybee can safely roam. Ukraine’s “Minefield Honey” project provides farmers with an opportunity to make their inaccessible fields productive.
Ukrainian filmmaker Lana Shapoval presents footage of the Minefields Honey project in action. An introduction will be provided by Caverlee Cary, a local Ukraine advocate.
