Hello there,
I'm Cristian, and I finally had the opportunity to aquire a few beehives. It was a long time dream of mine.
I even opened a business to show how serious I am about it.
So far I purchased 4 beehives and I was able to split them in half.
8 beehives all quite happy, and a happier beekeeper.
At the moment I keep them 3.5 hours away, far from my home, the only place  i could find to keep them.
Looking to bring them closer, I live in Union City Ca.
If anybody can help me with a location or advice to be able to keep my hives somewhere closer to home would be greatly appreciated.
Soo.. much to learn studying the bees, would be great to be able to have them closer, so I will not loose the whole weekend to visit them and fulfill their needs.
Thank you,
Cristian

Hi Cristian,
You may want to check the website for a map that shows the ordinances around beekeeping in your city.  Start there, then maybe try  -Next Door-, if you have that social media communication for your neighborhood , message  your neighbors to see who would be a host location for you and give them some of the honey or something for their space.

Hi Susan,
Thank you for your reply and suggestions. Very valuable information.
The truth is I feel hopeless right now. I cannot believe it is so difficult to find a spot for a couple beehives, with so much land around.
I already reached out to Local Nextdoor, have an ad on Craigslist, with no success.
I tried the park district, with no success.
Anyway, I’ll keep trying...
What website are you referring to for the local ordinances? The Abca website?
Or the local city website?
Have a great Sunday!
Best Regards,
Cristian

Have you tried touching bases at garden clubs? Go to the meetings in the area.

The number of beekeepers has exploded in the last decade. Even though most of them are backyard Beeks, you have lots of competition.

I think we had several posts recently about people offering to host hives in their yards.  You may want to search recent posts on this list

Cristian,

The map of regulations put together by the ACBA Bee Legal shows Union City uses only nuisance regulations for beekeeping.  So you can't create a nuisance for your neighbors - be careful to provide your bees with water before you install them so they don't go to neighboring water sources (dog water bowls, pools, etc).  And be careful to control the flyway when you choose a spot so that they get right up into the sky and don't fly across the driveway next door.

Sorry I can't help with finding a spot, but I'm sure you'll find someone.  Others seem to have ideas.  If you don't get a spot in Union City, check back to see the regulations in other cities.  Maybe the map will get posted soon.

Good luck,

Nickie
