Hi Folks! Tuesday's (October 14) ACBA in-person meeting will feature Emily Helton, Apiologist at the Honeybee Discovery Center in Orland California.

The topic will be The Superorganism: One Body One Mind. A honeybee colony is more than just a collection of individual bees -- it functions as a single, integrated “superorganism.” Much as the organs and systems of the human body work together to sustain life, the bees within a hive each perform specialized roles that keep the whole colony alive and thriving. This presentation will explore how division of labor, communication, and interdependence within a colony mirror processes in the human body, offering a fascinating perspective on collective life and cooperation in nature.

Meeting agenda:
  • 7:00 - 7:30: Social time and “newbee” round table — get your questions answered in a small, friendly group.
  • 7:30 - 9:00: Speaker Emily Helton
  • 9:00 - 9:15: Club business and announcements
(Note that the speaker will be starting at 7:30 sharp because she has a long drive back to Orland afterwards, so we'll have the announcements at the end.)

Directions and such are on the club website here. See you there!

Hi Mimi,

It will be recorded, and the recording will eventually make its way to the website so people can watch the recordings -- but it won't be virtual.

The "second Tuesday of the month" meetings are in-person only; the "third Tuesday of the month" meetings are virtual by Zoom.
