Thanks to all the swarm list team!  I had a blast chasing swarms this year with Liz, and we chased a LOT. It was a special year and you have my gratitude.

In friendship,

Paula

A really big thank you to Jerry and the dedicated members of the swarm list team for all that you do. I want you to know that chasing swarms gave me SO much joy this year. Because of what you do, Paula and I got to:

Collect so many swarms: big swarms, tiny secondary swarms and swarms shaped like pineapples. Swarms on the pavement, in shrubs, on fountains, hidden in the center of trees and one never to be forgotten swarm that was so high up we had to charm a fire fighting chief into coming out with his fire truck to help.

We met some wonderful people and put a couple of young kids who were a bit frightened of the bees into protective gear so they could come and investigate the hive boxes and watch the bees fanning. We got to educate lots of people about bees and Paula handed out many jars of honey to thank people for calling the swarm line.

We named each swarm we collected and sometimes could not stop thinking of particular swarms for hours and hours after collection. Sometimes our psyches were so filled with the sound and smell and "heft" of a swarm that we got to dream of bees. Sometimes, the morning after a collection, the very first thing I would think of when I opened my eyes was the swarm from the night before.

We took so many good photos and shared so many beautiful and intense experiences. It was really a life changing year and none of it would have been possible without the Swarm line's wonderful volunteers. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Wow that’s a lot of calls, especially since it’s not end of year yet.  We’ll continue to get calls on wasps/YJ and extractions plus the occasional hive that absconded.
