I just got home from covering the evening shift at the ACBA booth at the County Fair. If you haven't done this yet, I can't encourage you enough. It's so much fun. My favorite part about doing the booth is talking to the kids. So many of them know so much about bees and are so eager to talk about it with you. They're full of charm and excitement.
Giving the bee demonstration is super easy, and the people in the audience basically treat you like you're a wizard of some kind! 🐝 The bees are super gentle and you don't even need a veil
(although they are provided if you are more comfortable with that). Just open it up, show a few frames, let them take a look and take pictures, talk about what you're seeing. People are amazed and grateful for the entertainment and information.
I believe there are still plenty of shifts available if you are considering. Please sign up sooner than later so our organizers can relax and not worry if they will be enough people to provide supervision to the observation hive for the remainder of the fair. Give a little back to the club if you can find the time. You can see available shifts here:
In friendship,
Paula
