Hi Folks! Tuesday's (January 13) ACBA in-person meeting (tomorrow night as I write this) will feature Ukrainian filmmaker Lana Shapoval presenting footage of the Minefields Honey project in action. An introduction will be provided by Caverlee Cary, a local Ukraine advocate.

Beekeeping holds a special place in war-torn Ukraine today. While pesticides and parasites may pose a threat to honeybees worldwide, in Ukraine it is the honeybee that can flourish where mankind is imperiled.  After over ten years of war, and nearly four since the full-scale invasion, Ukraine may now be the most heavily mined country on earth.  But where man cannot tread, the honeybee can safely roam.  Ukraine’s “Minefield Honey” project provides farmers with an opportunity to make their inaccessible fields productive.

Meeting agenda:

  • 7:00 - 7:30: Social time and “newbee” round table — get your questions answered in a small, friendly group.
  • 7:30 - 8:00: Club business.
  • 8:00 - 9:00: Speaker Lana Shapoval.

Directions and such are on the club website here. See you there!
