Hi folks! A reminder that the club will be having a booth at the 49th annual Solano Avenue Stroll in North Berkeley/Albany this Sunday, and there are still 5 two-hour volunteer positions available.

If you haven't been to the Solano Avenue Stroll before, it's the East Bay's largest street fair, attracting more than 100,000 people. The club booth will just be a simpler version of what we had at the county fair: an observation hive with live bees, some brochures and stickers to give out, and the opportunity to chat with people about beekeeping!

The only thing missing? YOU! We need you to hang out for two hours and talk to people while you help kids find the queen bee. It's super fun, and you can check out the hundreds of other booths before/after you volunteer.

Sign up here and we'll see you there! Here's a picture from last year so you can see what it's like:

Oh, and I should have mentioned that the most common question I get about volunteering for things like this is "am I experienced enough to do it?". And the answer is yes! Anyone can do it.

People don't ask you difficult questions about bee biology or anything like that. They just want to talk about bees, tell stories of their relatives who used to keep bees when they were a child, be amazed at how there's only one queen but tens of thousands of workers, and so on. It's just like talking to your friends when they find out you have bees. And of course there will be other people there if you need anything (I'll be there all day). So if you're hesitant, this is a great way to do a little volunteering!

I am going to Be volunteering until 11:30a. Then hanging out at the street fair until around 2:00-3:30. For those taking bart from the Fremont, Hayward, San Leandro, Castro Valley, area, but would like a ride back within that time frame, please reach out for travel arrangement back. I would be happy to carpool.
