Club Members,

We need you to volunteer for a shift in our annual booth at the Alameda County Fair between June 19 and July 12. This is in many ways the highlight of the club’s year — and it’s a highlight of the fair, too!

  •     Hang out with and learn from fellow beekeepers at the booth
  •     Inspire the next generation of beekeepers
  •     Hand out brochures
  •     Help find the queen in the observation hive
  •     Look after the live bee display

Volunteers get a free full day entry and parking pass to the fair (list price $20 for admission and $15 for parking). Come before your shift or stay after your shift. Enjoy the exhibits, the vendors, the midway, the incredible fair food!

The exhibit mostly explains itself; almost any member of the club can volunteer. There are two kinds of shifts: ones where you just hang out in the booth, and ones where you also do a short public beekeeping demonstration. You can choose, but you don't need to be an expert for either of them. A demonstration where you open up the hive, show people a few frames of live bees, and describe what you're seeing, is plenty enough to amaze fairgoers! You aren’t expected to be a beekeeping expert — you’re sharing the experience, not giving a lecture.

This is your chance to do something easy and fun that really helps the club. Just go to the ACBA’s county fair calendar page to sign up and claim your preferred time slot.

Got questions or want more info? We have a page about that. If you have questions beyond that, please ask them here so everyone can benefit from the answers.

Here's a couple of pics from last year about what you could expect:

Thanks!

(I'll send a separate announcement in the next few days about how you can contribute to the booth if you want to do that.)
