January 1 was a Thursday, so weeks in this graph (histogram) run
from Thursday thru Wednesday.
Obviously, swarms this year are the blue line on the graph, and the
average over 10 years is the red.
The cold weather a few days ago seems to have set back swarming a
bit, and the hot weather
during March seems to have set things forward a bit.
This week, the next week, and the week after, in
typical years, account for about 100 swarm calls!
• Please keep you swarm collecting kit in the car so you can
respond to an emergency quickly.
• Be prepared to respond to a call from a neighbor.
• Perhaps most important, get into the hives you've been putting
off, and do reactive swarm management if you have to!!
There
are queen cells in my hive - what should I do?

§ The next couple of weeks are also likely to produce the majority
of this season's honey.
If your colony swarms, honey production will be significantly
reduced. Yet another reason to practice good management.
This is the most fun time of year for we beekeepers :-)
