Using Google Groups

Hi all,

Just to be clear, I think that we should endeavor to have all of our THATCamp planning in Google Groups so we have an easy to search archive of all of our planning discussions. To make sure that you are pinging the whole group, please send emails to thatcamp-...@googlegroups.com. An email sent to this address will be forwarded to everyone in the group from that email address. When replying, please do not reply to the original author but instead to the thatcamp-...@googlegroups.com address (which should be the default). Doing this will allow the discussion to be threaded in the Group.

At the moment, the Group is only accessible to its members. But we might think about changing that. For example, THATCamp New England has made their GooGroup open for all to see as well as calling for help in organizing the camp (see http://thatcampnewengland.org/2010/05/25/help-organize-thatcamp-new-england/). In the spirit of the uncoference, we might want to do the same thing. It would be an easy way to gain collaborators.

All right. I've gone ahead and made the group publicly accessible and listed it in the Google Groups directory. I've also enabled people to request membership, but I can make that freely open as well for people to join without any permission from us.
