Im trying to get a VPN connection connected to our organisations VPN. I am using an M1 mac with Parallels running windows but the x64 version is not working (windows can emulate x64 instructions from what I understand). The windows don't open to the configuration menu items so I'm unable to configure it even though it runs and is running in the taskbar. So, is there a way to get it working or is there going to be a ARM version for windows for the software?

The fact that you are running this on an Apple M1 Mac shouldn't really matter. What the Check Point VPN software sees and interacts with is a Windows x86-64 installation of Windows. The fact that this operating system is being emulated by Parallels shouldn't really be visible to the operating system and thus not affecting things in such a way.

What version of Windows are you running and what version of the Check Point VPN client are you deploying?

Windows in Parallels on an M1 Mac isn't amd64, it's aarch64. The instruction translation would be done within Windows. I don't think this is going to work, as Check Point's endpoint software does some lower-level things which probably involve instructions Windows doesn't translate.

What endpoint features are needed? If only VPN access is required, look into Check Point's L2TP-over-IPSec functionality. It works with the VPN client built into Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and more.

We do have native clients that run on the Mac and are supported with the M1 processor (albeit they require Rosetta2 currently).

Or if you need something in the Windows VM, you can use the Check Point Mobile client from the Windows Store.

Exactly. Parallels does not emulate a processor architecture, so Windows in Parallels on an M1 Mac would be the aarch64 version of Windows. Microsoft has its own amd64-to-aarch64 instruction translation layer like Apple's Rosetta 2, but I suspect it only works for userspace software (i.e., nothing ring 0 or below).

I don't know about the configuration on the organisations side, but I was told I am only able to use the checkpoint VPN client, so unless they specifically allow it I don't think the L2TP-over-IPSec is an option?

Im facing similar problem, im running win10 in Parallels app on M1 macbook air. The problem is that I need to have my native os (macOSX) connected to corporate VPN while WIN10 connected to a client. I've installed Check Point mobile E86.80 and i can not even open the menu to configure sites. I see error - connectivity with the vpn service is lost. Any thoughts how to solve this?

i'd like to ask you, one our client is using certificate + ldap password on the VPN remote access, I've successfully installed my certificate but still have error while connecting. Is there any way how to troubleshoot this erorr?

I have exactly the same issue. And i guess that it could be easily solved. A couple of days ago I contacred the McNeel support and rhey suggested to start a post in the forum. So here I am. Hopefully we can solve it soon. It would be great to use my new computer wirh windows too. The Mac-version of Rhino works fine. But I have a CAM plugin (MADCAM) I would like to use too. Actually I have to use it. Kind regards Florian

FWIW, I am in a similar situation. Running an M1 with Parallels v17 and Windows 11. I was hoping to be able to use Rhino on the Windows side to take advantage of some industry specific windows-only plugins / connections, but unfortunately it does not work currently.

Rhino does run on the Mac side of course, but a bunch of the specific plugins I use are windows only. Its definitely too bad this is all not working now. If anyone might have any suggestions on fixes to try I would very much appreciate it!

Now I switched to a new Macbook Pro with Apple M1 cpu which has an ARM64 architecture. So I'm now on Windows 11 ARM version. Cisco is the only VPN client (and those on virtual desktops) which is working in this constellation. I tried the 32 and 64 bit versions of the current windows FortiClients, none is working.

When I searched for "FortiClient" in the Microsoft Store, I found that App and I installed it. After the Installing process there is a white App with only a notice with some information, when you opened it in the Windows Start Menu. The Header is called: "FortiClient v1.0.1041".

To Configure the App, I open the Settings and searched for 'VPN Settings'. There I click on 'Add VPN' and add the Name, url:port, the Name and the Passphrase. We have no certificate in my Company. After that I select in VPN Provider the FortiClient. I enabled the "Remember my sign-in info".

How to use Microsoft Store to install most recently version? The avaliable one is 2016.

Using directly from FortClient site does not work, installation run perfectly without erros, but when try to connect take a few second and finish, not complete VPN connection.

Something rare, constantly Windows is trying to install network interface without succes, i happend for you too?

The Fortinet Security Fabric brings together the concepts of convergence and consolidation to provide comprehensive cybersecurity protection for all users, devices, and applications and across all network edges.

can you share details how you accomplished this? we have several mac users that use parallels because some of their engineering apps are only windows based. this would allow us to handle licensing much easier than a manual windows install.

I would recommend using VMWare Fusion as they have formal support for all of this. Though keep in mind you can only run Windows in a VM on Intel Macs. Microsoft does not sell product keys or licensing beyond that of OEM for Windows for ARM.

In my environment I actually pulled the plug on Windows VM's early last year. Way too much hassle and the Windows team never wants to support them. If someone who has a Mac needs a Windows instance we point them to our VDI solutions. Local VM's are not used a frequently as they should be and are off most of the time, they love to have problems with SCCM. Nothing like a "urgent" ticket for a VM that has not been turned on in 6 months that the person needs now for some "critical" issue they are working on.

Looks like Parallels does not offer network boot by default, you have to change settings for it. I wonder what would happen if you tossed the boot media on a flash drive and told Parallels to boot off of that. It should point to the PXE server when the installer loads to get everything. Technically this is not network boot. I do know you cannot used shared networking as PXE will not work with that, you need bridged.

Yes but it took a bit of messing about. It was about 2 years ago so an older version of Parallels. I was only able to get it to work if I wiped an existing windows VM or clone one and rename it. In other words I could not create a new VM just pxe booting.

I have been building a course in Storyline 360 on a 2021 M1Pro Macbook, latest MacOS, 32Gb Ram using the latest Parallels and Windows 11 ARM version (which now installs automatically from the Parallels install).

It was working pretty well (a bit slow) for some time, but it started having weird glitches like losing line spacing settings. (I'd set exact line spacing for layout purposes, and after saving, closing and returning to the file I found that everywhere I had changed that, it was changed back to single line spacing, of course, making a mess of my layouts.)

Working with Articulate support, their best assessment is that "erratic behavior" like this means some sort of corrupted install. Now after uninstalling, and reinstalling all Articulate products, the line spacing bug is different, but now Storyline keeps crashing every 15 or 20 minutes.

It is starting to look to me like Articulate is not completely stable running on an M1 Mac under Parallels. (Seems like it might be fine for some light usage?) This would be very sad since so many people seem to use Macs for working in Storyline, and the M1 Macs have been out for 2 years now.

Like many users, I also use Articulate 360 with Parallels so I know how frustrating it is to not have Storyline 360 run properly with the M1 chip. I do understand that switching hardware to run one specific application isn't an ideal solution, but if this is an option for you, then we recommend switching to a machine that meets the system requirements needed to properly run Storyline 360.

Thanks for the comments. After I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Storyline and Articulate 360 it seems to be a bit more stable recently on the M1. I do plan to go back to using Storyline on my old 2018 Intel MacBook. I have not noticed it to run significantly faster on the new M1 Mac anyway.

It would be great if Articulate would revisit the whole situation since the "latest information" offered in the support pages is now almost a year old and Parallels can install the Windows 11 ARM version in pretty much a simple seamless step during the basic installation. And yes, I did follow all of the recommended settings for running Storyline in a virtual PC (no shared directories, etc.)

It is sort of funny that people keep pointing to Devlin's video from almost a year ago. Again, not the current information about Parallels and Windows, and if you listen through Devlin's review, it is far from glowing. He reported that many simple operations were very laggy (e.g. opening triggers dialog). When I watched it originally, I thought maybe this was because he was testing on the MacBook Air. But I find the same slow response using the 2021 MacBook Pro M1Pro w/ 32Gb RAM. This video was made early on and seems to be more of a "proof of concept" of something that is "possible", but not necessarily good.
