I installed Kubuntu on my laptop and now I want to install my printer drivers. I tried from System Configuration and by selected printers. Then, my laptop detected my printer, but when I searched for the driver, there was not driver for my printer (ML-1640) in the list.
The Keynote will be available to stream on apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel. On-demand playback will be available after the conclusion of the stream.

Thanks for your reply ... works with ML-1630 ... but looking for something not requiring 3rd party software. I can run the printer on Monterey with virtual High Sierra in VMware ... just cannot understand why Samsung or Apple have not addressed this? thanks again ...
Actually finds the printer in VMware but does not natively install the driver so that it works ... really annoying ... there must be a driver that works with this printer? ... that is why I have been with Apple since SE30 days (yea I am that old) ... this is beginning to look like Vista issues ... even more annoying works fine with windows 11 ... going for reprogramming now LOL
Hi, I have a Samsung ML-1640 Series laser printer. When I print from Arch Linux, the printer's led starts blinking (as if it were printing) but it prints nothing. After several minutes of blinking, it prints an error:
This happens when printing from any program, and it happens both with the splix driver in the official repos and with the samsung-unified-driver-printer on the AUR. Also, it happens for any USB port I connect the printer to.
On Windows everything works as expected. The printer also used to work on Arch until a couple of months ago.
Please note that in the errors the "POSITION" field changes every time.
Do you have problems with USB sticks too (read only) ?
Some time ago I had a strange problem with some USB sticks which previously worked correctly.
I remember PSU having had some bulged electrolytic capacitors. Since I had a spare at hand, I replaced the PSU. Currently I have no problems.
You can check by voltmeter the PSU voltages you get at the moment, might give a hint. USB uses 5V, but check other voltages too.
I doubt it's a hardware problem, since the printer works correctly on Windows with the same computer with the same cable in the same port.
Thank you a lot for answering anyway.
Could it be some sort of race condition in recent versions of cups?
Who knows? Perhaps even re-install might be the cure.
You can of course do some testing by downloading older Cups from archive and downgrade.
Remember also edit pacman.conf to prevent Cups updates by mistake (to enable other system updates).
I reinstalled Arch yesterday both for this issue and because it was getting way too bloated, but it still didn't solve the issue.
However, I don't know how downgrading cups didn't cross my mind. I downgraded both cups and libcups and now it works.
So yeah, this issue is caused by the cups update from version 1:2.3.3op1-1 to version 1:2.3.3op2-1 which happened on Feb 2 2021 (link).
I opened an issue on the OpenPrinting cups GitHub repository:
Thank you euromatlox for your help

The print method for this device is the laser beam printing, which is classic for Samsung products. Furthermore, the print speed is up to 16 pages per minute (ppm) when printing on an A4 paper. Similarly, printing on a letter-size paper is at the rate of 17 ppm. Also, after issuing the command to print, the device takes less than 10 seconds from the active mode. However, the cold-boot mode will take less than 30 seconds.
The Samsung ML-1640 version of the printer allows an input tray capacity of 150 sheets for plain paper. More details of the printer paper load are available on the printer manual. On the other hand, the paper output capacity is about 50 sheets with an average weight of 20 lbs. This machine is also with a power rating within 110 to 127 volts or 220 to 240 volts. It also has a specific frequency range.
The power consumption of the printer largely depends on the print mode. For example, the active mode uses up to 70 watts of power, while the sleep mode requires 6 watts. The average operating mode power consumption is, however, less than 300 watts of power. It also produces a noise level of less than 26 dBA for the active mode and less than 50 dBA in the printing mode. At the same time, it tales a warm-up time of 25 seconds.
