Dear Colleague,
As you will recall from previous messages communicated to you by both the Executive Director and the ICPD Beyond 2014 Coordination Secretariat, engaging young people fully and effectively in all aspects of the ICPD review, a top priority of the organization, has been identified as one of the major responsibilities of country offices in the review process.
Now UNFPA with its UN System partners, working with a large number of interested Member States, are in the process of holding a number of global thematic conferences, as part of the global review that would require further support from Country Offices. This is especially so with the Global Youth Forum, which would take place from the 4th - 6th December in Bali, Indonesia.
Country Offices are kindly requested to build awareness of the relevance of and opportunity presented by the ICPD Beyond 2014 through the Global Youth Forum. For further information on the Forum and on Country Offices support, please consult the ICPD Beyond 2014 Review Toolkit : https://portal.myunfpa.org/web/icpd-beyond-2014-review-toolkit/home.
Co-hosted by the Indonesian Government, the Global Youth Forum will bring together 900 delegates in Bali and many more through the online tools at our disposal, comprising at least one youth representative from each country, youth networks, NGOs, Governments, the private sector, educational institutions and the UN system to address key issues for youth and to identify concrete recommendations to be included in the Secretary-General’s global report on the review as well for the post 2014 MDG framework and the UN development agenda beyond 2014. The Global Youth Forum will consider five key themes around youth transitions:
· Staying healthy
· Comprehensive education
· Transitions to decent employment for youth
· Sexuality, families and rights
· Fully inclusive civic participation
Using a World Café modality, everyone participating in the conference will discuss and make recommendations on each theme.
Decisions regarding the Forum are made by a youth-led international Steering Committee with representation of international cooperation agencies, private sector and over 20 global and regional youth networks and NGOs. The Steering Committee has already selected the delegates participating in the Forum in Bali.
Please see Annex 2 for a list of all delegates attending the forum, in alphabetical order by country. We are kindly asking to please confirm, as soon as possible, the financial support for the participation of at least one of the youth participants from your country, as mentioned in previous communications.
Annex 1 is a
comprehensive overview of Country Office involvement in the
Global Youth Forum.
We would be
grateful if you could share with the ICPD Beyond 2014
Secretariat your Country Office plans to support national
platform discussions, registration and youth engagement in the
Global Youth Forum as soon as possible. Should
you have any queries on the Global Youth Forum, please don’t
hesitate to contact Ms. Noemi Espinoza at nesp...@unfpa.org
and/or Ms. Anita Wiseman, ICPD Beyond 2014 Communication
Specialist at wis...@unfpa.org.
