Dear Vitor,
Next week, the Ethics and Governance in AI Initiative will launch a new open call, offering a share of $750,000 for ideas that shape the impact artificial intelligence (AI) might have on the field of news and information.
AI is increasingly shaping the quality of news online, and how it flows through the web and onto our screens. However, much of the technology is currently being developed by a handful of companies. Knight and the Ethics and Governance of AI Initiative believe that we need to expand the range of perspectives and interests that have a hand in the design of these technologies, to ensure they are developed in the broader public interest.
Do you know someone who has an interest in these topics and might be interested in applying? We need your help to reach more people working in this field and who have connections to communities that frequently aren’t part of this conversation. Please ask them to fill out this Google form, so that we can share more information on the open call.
This challenge is open to anyone: journalists, designers, technologists, policy makers, activists, entrepreneurs, artists, lawyers from a variety of communities around the world - anyone with a good idea for addressing the challenges presented by AI in the news and information landscape.
We’re looking forward to launching it Sept. 12.
If you have any questions about the challenge, please feel free to email me.
Best,
Paul Cheung
