Naming opportunities is an important topic for museums and the continual
need to raise money. With the passing of my mother on Sunday, the topic of
how to come to grips with the memory of a loved one has become personal.
Very large donors often can name a building after someone. But for people
of modest means, there ought to be a way to have the opportunity do
something to at least feel like the loved one will not be forgotten.
Bricks in the walk is certainly one idea. I would like to get more ideas.

Earlier this year, my wife and I attended a workshop where Dr. Ira Byock,
M.D. spoke all morning. He wrote the book "The Four Things That Matter
Most, A Book About Living." It is a lot about lessons learned around
people dying. I read the book before going to visit my mother several
weeks ago, and it helped make the time about creating completions in the
relationship, and reducing the regrets when the loved one passes. I
recommend getting the book, and at least having it on the shelf for when
you need it. Marcus Brown, Timber Heritage
