The Oktoberfest is a week away. Instead of an auction, we are going with a
raffle for a trip from Emeryville to Reno for two on the Virginia City
private railcar. I want to encourage you to consider selling some raffle
tickets. I have sold a few, and it is not a hard sell. Mike has printed
some pocket sized flyers that I find people ask about when "raffle" is
showing in my shirt pocket. I tell people that this is the most affordable
opulent railroad journey available. This was the private car of famous
railroad author Lucius Beebe. His favorite saying was, " Anything worth
doing is worth doing in style." Just inside the back observation platform
is the living room with fireplace, chandelier, and queen anne furniture.
Down the hall is the grand dining room. The next car is a former Santa Fe
Super Chief dome car. Yhese are put onto the end of the Amtrak California
Zephyr for a three day weekend trip over Donner Pass to Reno. It includes
two nights lodging at the Nugget. Riders must get themselves to Emeryville
or other stations, such as Sacramento, to board. I have ridden it several
times, and it is a fabulous experience. On board meals and plentiful
beverage service is included. I got a large group together one time, and
we had a blast. Please call Mike Kellogg at 443-2957 to get set up with
tickets and pocket flyers. We have sold $670.00 worth of tickets at $10
each The prize is worth over $1000.00, so let's get it up to at least a
grand. Check out
www.vcrail.com and go to snow flake special for more
info. Thanks, Marcus Brown
