After the conclusion of the Tantalus mission during our last session, Brad D, Indy, and myself played another short mission just for fun. The way I am handling XP and Renown for these games is that you will all recieve the same amount, even if you are not present. The reasoning behind this is that since the Deathwatch is a military organization as opposed to a party of adventurers, the characters not present for the missions played were simply assigned a different task of the same difficulty, and thus are given the same rewards.
Also, I would like to remind everyone that to gain actual levels you have to spend the experience you earn. Even if you have the 4,000 experience needed to advance from Rank 1 to Rank 2, if you have not spent that experience on skills, talents, or traits then you will remain a Rank 1 character.
Renown is the other type of reward gained at the end of a mission, and it is used to determine how famous your characters are and what type of gear you are eligible to take with you on missions. To get to the next Renown level, you will need a total of 20 points. These points, unlike experience, do
not need to be spent to count towards leveling. You simply gain them and keep them. To advance to the next rank, Respected, you will need 20 Renown points.
