Dear JAG,
AWAM will be hosting a PERpaduan Workshop for activists in the first quarter of 2018, for which we would like to invite each organisation to send two participants.
The objective of this workshop is to engage young people in constructive dialogue towards building a Malaysia that is free of politicised ethnicity and religion. It is part of AWAM’s Politicisation of Ethnicity and Religion (PER) programme, which seeks to build bridges and address the use of politicised ethnicity and religion to justify violence and discrimination against women.
This Two-day, One-night residential event fully funded by AWAM, is open to youths aged between 18 and 25 years old.
Dates: In order to facilitate this workshop, we would like to ask JAGgers to indicate which set of dates will be best for your organisation:
3rd to 4th February (Sat to Sun), OR
10th to 11th February (Sat to Sun), OR
17th to 18th March (Sat to Sun)
This workshop is Part 1 of a Two-part programme and will cover the Core Concepts based on our PERpaduan manual.
Content: The manual provides tools to understand, critically analyse, and re-imagine a Malaysia, one that is based on mutual respect, non-violence, and non-discrimination.
Core concepts: Explores the key issues of diversity, stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination, power and privilege, and gender to provide participants with a basic understanding of these issues.
Part 2, which will look at case studies where ethnicity and religion are politicised, among others, will be at a later date.
We look forward to your response, which will help us move forward in planning this workshop!
